Race Day Events
70F / 21C
Sunny
Total Time = 53m 9s
Overall Rank = 4/230
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 2/16
Pre-race routine:

Normal routine, breakfast and a last check over the bike. Jenny showed up and we took the short trip to the venue.
Event warmup:

Biked a bit, ran a bit, swam a lap.

Did a 3 hour ride yesterday so the legs needed a little extra time to get working.
Swim
  • 05m 59s
  • 350 meters
  • 01m 43s / 100 meters
Comments:

Fairly good swim. Lined up close to the front and got passed by one person, but she was a "real" swimmer and should have been up higher in the line anyways.

Not much to say, short and sweet
What would you do differently?:

Nothing comes to mind.
Transition 1
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

Not a good T1 for me, 12" slower than last year, mainly because I just couldn't seem to get my helmet clipped on.

What would you do differently?:

I'm too lax on my transition practices. Gotta step up my game.
Bike
  • 28m 4s
  • 10 miles
  • 21.38 mile/hr
Comments:

Tough bike. Got stuck behind a pickup truck on the way back to T2 and that probably ate into my time a bit. Not a lot you can do about that though except take it in stride.
What would you do differently?:

Getting my bike fitness back, but still not there yet. I still felt those hills more than I'd prefer to.
Transition 2
  • 00m 35s
Comments:

Dropped the visor on my Kask helmet and had to pick it up. Annoying and cost me a second or two.
What would you do differently?:

Just not be such a Noob.
Run
  • 17m 10s
  • 4 kms
  • 04m 17s  min/km
Comments:

Just felt like poo today on the run... maybe partially because of the long ride yesterday followed by a hard effort on the bike today.

Today was supposed to be a "hard training day" though, so I don't suppose I should have felt 100% the whole time.

What would you do differently?:

Still need to work on my run. 19th run split is embarrassing.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out with Jenny, the fam and some friends. Waited for awards and then headed to get some lunch!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being a slouch in transitions, out of shape on the bike and a bad runner overall.

Event comments:

As always, Race Day Events puts on a well supported, well planned race. No complaints

You have taken this sport to a new level. Congrats. Still have the HTFU disc covers?

Still probably the best money I've ever spent on my bike!

Hey Chris, Thanks for not beating the 50 year old ahead of you. It would of knocked me out of 1st in AG.

The head is much better today...hip not so much.

At mile ten I heard a noise like I had gotten paper in my spokes or something. I looked but saw nothing but a few seconds later my rear tire blows out.

Are these races too close together to give me any sort of recovery? Will I be spent and unhappy racing back to back weekends and then again two weeks after that?

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.

Since your “A” race is your marathon, which you stated in your question, this should be your main focus. I encourage you to taper a bit for the sprint distance triathlon.
