I just moved from NYC to Somerville (near Davis Square) and am looking for some good biking roads. I found a pretty good bunch of roads near the Middlesex Fells Reservation to the north but would love to hear more. Safe, long and well-paved are the best ones. Also with hills. Thank you very much.

Check out the Minute Man Trail. Not sure how you'd get to it from Davis, but it's a rails-to-trails MUP that runs for miles.

I've started using Strava's heat maps for finding new routes - it shows you the roads most Strava cyclists use. I've been riding my area for years and found some new roads (to me) because of this tool.

From this map you can see that most cyclists seem to head out north west from your area:

That's pretty awesome. I wasn't familiar with that. Thank you.

The triathlon bike vs. road bike quandary. Before you even ask the road bike vs. tri bike question, you should have a couple sprint triathlons or duathlons under your belt.
