Sunny
Total Time = 1h 58m 49s
Overall Rank = 72/401
Age Group = M15-19
Age Group Rank = 3/3
Event warmup:

Nothing. Was in the terminal/on the ferry for over two hours.
Swim
  • 16m 18s
  • 1760 yards
  • 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

Ended up not being a bad swim despite the confusing course. Came out of the water at 15:11 then took a minute to run up to the sensor for T1.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 03m 45s
Comments:

The timing on this is messed up. I was somewhere around 3:00 for T1 and around 2:00 for T2, so I think these were added together for some reason. I have no registered time for T2 as many others.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Had a good transition. The BodyGlide helped big-time with the wetsuit removal.
Bike
  • 57m 52s
  • 18.8 miles
  • 19.49 mile/hr
Comments:

Was going great until around mile 5. Was consistently going 23.5-24 mph, right where I wanted to be and felt good. Then the flat tire came after coming off the bridge for the second time on the 1st lap. Didn't have any tools so had to ride the remaining 15 miles on it. Only averaged 19.4mph in the end. Was really annoyed but that's racing. Just have to deal with it.
What would you do differently?:

Couldn't do much, really, about the flat.
Transition 2
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

Must have been added onto T1.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 39m 29s
  • 5 miles
  • 07m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

Overall bad run, simply because I couldn't find anyway to get going through that sand. Didn't start to normally run until I got on the blacktop to the finish, but by then I was already exhausted from battling the sand.
What would you do differently?:

Run more on soft sand possibly...? I don't live down the shore so wouldn't be able to do that. Not sure if there's anyway you can prepare for this run course unless you live there.
Post race
Warm down:

Didn't really do much. Rode 2 miles back to parking but that's about it.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Flat tire, not being prepared to run on the sand.

Event comments:

I'm usually all for Delmo Sports (always a 5/5 rating in past) but wasn't exactly happy with this race. I felt like the run course on the sand was unnecessary, and it was a much longer wait than expected for the Int'l athletes to start. The swim was also too confusing. The buoys on the course were pretty meaningless.

Swimming

Age Group: 0/3
Overall: 0/401
Performance: Good
Suit: blueseventy Reaciton Sleeveless
Course: Since the ferry had to keep being re positioned, not many of us actually knew where we were supposed to go. I ended up going straight with a big group and then we all had to redirect and go all the way to the right to get back on course. Was very confusing.

Course: I personally hated this course. Absolutely couldn't stand it. A large portion of the run was on very soft sand. There was just no way to run normally because of the soft sand. It was more about climbing your feet out of it than actually running.

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

At some point I remember thinking about the movie CAPE FEAR. This is what it seemed like when I was around a lot of people. It was just a lot of commotion of waves, arms and feet.
