Swim
Comments: The swim was slow but actually with the water conditions I felt pretty good and okay with it. There was a wind, a current and some chop, all of which is foreign to me. I felt like I put in a consistent effort, sighted better than St. George and managed to cut off 5mins from last years time on the same course, with worse winds. What would you do differently?: Still waiting to learn how to swim. Hoping it will come to me one day and I will understand what I have been missing... Transition 1
Bike
Comments: The bike was a bit strange. I went into Boise determined to hold nothing back. I felt I was overly cautious in St. George and didn't want to leave anything behind this time. I pushed harder, focused on maintaining a more constant power and felt stronger. I was passing people continuously. My power average is higher than in St. George and this made me happy... however, I was slow. I was hoping to be around 2:45 and figured that was realistic with having bike 2:50 last year on the same course. I know there was a lot of wind but I was VERY upset and shaken to pull into T2 so far off my goals. The bad news was that I drank and ate only half of what I had planned and may have regretted this on the run. What would you do differently?: Meet my nutritional goals... figure out where this went wrong... Transition 2
Run
Comments: The run was a 2-loop course, mostly shaded and almost completely flat. I wanted to be running around 5min/km for the first loop and then hold on and give the second loop whatever I had left in me. This plan was working ok until about 7km... when I started to slow... I am not sure how much of this was mental (frustrated by how far behind I felt I was already) and how much of this was physical (sad lack of nailing my training). I let it get to my head and actually walked the aid stations on the second loop. There is no way this run on this course should have been slower than St. George, however I did take 5mins off my time on the same course from last year. What would you do differently?: Need a lot more run training... Post race
