Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 4:40 (you know tris are an old game to you when you actually press snooze on race morning - TWICE!). ate some cereal and yogurt, had a little coffee, and loaded everythign up and hit the road.

met 2 schoolmates at the mall and caravaned to sylvania! my friend got there and couldn't find marshall fields, so he asked a security guard who led him to us at marshall fields at 5:20am. hahaha!!

once there, i picked up my packet, dropped kids off at the pool (way before the pre-race rush, which was key :)), and set up my transition area. it was a little weird because they weren't being strict AT ALL about the athletes only thing. i saw tons of non-athletes inside that TA. but they had stickers for every individual race number so you couldn't really hog space, which was nice.

got my chip (velcro straps instead of wristbands - nice!), got marked, and wolfed down a clif bar - i was HUNGRY!

pre-race meeting and looked at the course. it sure looked longer than 400m of swimming to me.
Event warmup:

nothing really...i got in the water (82 degrees!!!! no wetsuits for anyone) and did a quick warmup...it was really pleasant and warm - very flat water too, no waves...nice.

then we had to get out of the water, where the air temp was WAY colder than the water. suck.
Swim
  • 11m 19s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

lots of bodies in the way today, but my sighting was really good. lots of hitting people...oops.
What would you do differently?:

start to the side more.
Transition 1
  • 02m 13s
Comments:

official results are in! 2:13 transition
Bike
  • 42m 57s
  • 13 miles
  • 18.16 mile/hr
Comments:

this was totally crazy because it was so flat!!!!! but i think they mis-measured the course, my computer says i went 12.48 miles at 17.5mph. either way, it's sure the fastest i've ever biked, ever.
Transition 2
  • 02m
Run
  • 31m 54s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

i felt good on this run, unlike the last race where i needed a good bit of time to get my legs back...i was able to run the whole thing and i had my legs back by the end of the first mile.

i was really able to pick it up in the last mile, and i ran HARD the last quarter mile and sprinted the last 100 yard or so...i thought i had a chance at beating 1:30...but oh well. i feel great!! i didn'te feel like dying afterwards...i was breathing hard, but i felt good.
What would you do differently?:

start running harder earlier, maybe?
Post race
Warm down:

BEER. they had beer! i didn't really do anything but drink beer and eat watermelon and twizzlers :).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of training, as per usual.

Event comments:

1) not strict enough in guarding the transition area
2) to get post race lunch food, you had to wait til 11:30 (i finished probably around 9) and walk around to the other side of the lake!!!! we didn't bother.
3) drink station at the START of the run, and the next was probably 1.75 miles in...then obviously at the finish...today wasn't hot, but on a hot day you'd probably want more?

surprised, because i hear elite endeavors does really good races...this was good, but i had expected better. but i still enjoyed it!

Good race. 1:30 would be 90 minutes (5400 seconds), and you were 5428 seconds, which is 0.5% off your goal.

Sounds like you had a great bike split.

Nice job! That's exactly the kind of post-race activity that I would do for my warmdown.

Wow, beer and watermelon, not a combination I would be doing.  Either or yeah, both... naw baby naw.

Great race, and you did a great job.  Sounds like a fantastic race.  It was on my list until I got my HS reunion letter, and both were this weekend.

The kids tri was one of the reasons, but it worked out great.

Hey Lisa, great job on the bike.  Hitting people during the swim can be fun - as long as you don't get hit :p

Wayyyy to go Lisa!   I forgot you were doing the Sylvania Tri...if I had remembered I would have drove on down, as the location is only about 30 minutes away.

Looks like you did awesome.   Congrats on the bike PR(!!) and for not walking during the run!
