Subject: Anybody else need less sleep while training? I made the transition from running to triathlon about four years ago. I like to read articles about triathlon, training, fitness and nutrition. Everything I have read has said that you need more sleep when you are training for a triathlon. I find that I need less sleep when I am in training. When I am not training I usually need 7 hours sleep a night. When I am training, I need about 6 hours. I usually wake up by myself, and have no need for an alarm clock. I take one hour naps on the weekends after my longer workouts.
I don't understand why I need less sleep. It was not this way when I was just a runner. Maybe I am getting better quality sleep during training? I find that I need less sleep in general the older I get (I'm 53 ). I'm just curious, does anyone else in my age range experience this?
Oh yes- an important piece of information- I participate in shorter distance triathlons (no 1/2 ironmans or ironmans ). Edited by punkster 2014-06-13 9:00 AM
