Total Time = 1h 28m 47s
Overall Rank = 35/296
Age Group = M 25-29
Age Group Rank = 3/19
Pre-race routine:

Jog/loosen up.
Event warmup:

Was pretty chilly out so i jogged around and loosened up for about 10 min before the swm.
Swim
  • 04m 56s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

Like my last triathlon, the water wasnt very deep so people were running the forst 75 yards, swimming about 250 then running in the last 75 yards. I decided to follow suit and ended up with the 12th best time of the day.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, while i would prefer to swim the entire swim course, if others are taking advantage of the shallower water i was going to as well.
Transition 1
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

Improved T1 time from my first race, had trouble getting my shoes strapped in but only probably cost me a few seconds. Still need to work on speeding these up a bit.
Bike
  • 1h 00m 45s
  • 22.5 miles
  • 22.22 mile/hr
Comments:

The hill you climb right out of T1 was tough as its about .75 miles long, i stayed seated the entire time to try and conserve energy and tried to not push myself too hard going up. Was definitely a tough climb but i think i managed it well. The rest of the bike course was pretty windy and my legs felt like lead the entire day, i really didn't think i was moving very well but was surprised when i saw my time!
What would you do differently?:

Even though the legs felt rough i think i could have gone harder.

Taper more during the week?
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

Good T2, i think i removed my feet from my shoes a little early on the bike leg and lost some time on the bike by doing that.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, need to start running sock-less 1-2 times a week.
Run
  • 20m 13s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs still felt like lead after the bike and the run course starts up that same big hill right out of T2. My strategy was to keep my strides short and not push hard up the hill as i knew i could make up some time once i got to the top. HR was pretty high after the hill but managed to get into a good stride after about 200 yards. The rest of the run i kept a good pace and when i reached the final stretch back down the hill i was really moving and sprinted pretty hard the last 75 or yards.
What would you do differently?:

Could have probably pushed myself harder once i got to the top of the hill but i wanted to save something for the final stretch. Still very happy with my time. Would have like to get sub 20.
Post race
Warm down:

Water/walking/stretching.

For my second ever triathlon im very happy. Two 3rd places in my AG in my first two tris so i cant complain!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I ate an entire jar of PB the night before. Wont be doing that again!

Event comments:

Really enjoyed this race. The course was a little challenging because of the hill but overall i think its a good course.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

After finishing a sprint triathlon I ate a large meal and about 8 hours later I became very ill with chills, fever and diarrhea. I attributed it to food poisoning but it happened again after a brick.
