Total Time = 2h 58m 52s
Overall Rank = 4/4
Age Group = Clydsdale
Age Group Rank = 0/
Event warmup:

Worry about my first OLY tri..
Swim
  • 30m
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was OK? spent the first 200meters or so trying to adjust my wetsuit. Then after that had to tread water for a few mins to get my mind from telling myself that I couldnt swim that far and I should give up....
What would you do differently?:

Not try out a new wetsuit on race day. And better prepare myself mentally.
Transition 1
  • 02m 42s
Comments:

T1 was slow, still trying to calm myself down.
What would you do differently?:

Not overthink the transition.
Bike
  • 1h 12m
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.71 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike went well besides the set of rumble strips I hit which left me a little sore. But other than that I felt good on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Watchout for rumble strips.
Transition 2
  • 02m 27s
Comments:

I was dehydrated after the bike so I decided to drink half a bottle of Gatoraid and chug as much water as I could hold. This was a BAD idea but seemed like a good one at the time.
What would you do differently?:

Dont drink so much in the Transition.
Run
  • 1h 11m 37s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

I had to stop and vomit all the fluid in my stomach around 1.5miles into the race. Had to do this a few times in the course and couldnt stop my stomach from cramping. Had to walk a few times. By far my worst run after a bike segment. but I made it and thats all I wanted to accomplish.

I was glad a few of the runners asked me if I needed medical on the run. However it was embarassing but I think they picked up that i was struggling, eventhough I though i was trying to hide it. Thank you!
What would you do differently?:

Train harder on running after biking.
Post race
Warm down:

sit in the shade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Stomach cramps in the run and just didnt have anything left during the Run.

Event comments:

Loved the race and the volunteers.

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

I signed up for a Sprint in July, an Olympic distance in September, and the Alcatraz tri in October. If I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it all the way.
