Pre-race routine:

Smoothie 1.5 hrs before race - bananas, berries, yogurt, honey, chia seeds and protein - too close to race start; had gassy stomach around mile 2
Event warmup:

Minimal stretching - too crowded at race start to stretch
Run
  • 24m 8s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

Did not stop for water; messed up on my Garmin (was measuring pool swim) so no measurements from that; first mile was a throw-away.... too many people to run around to really let loose - ran first mile in about 11 mins; that means that next two miles were run in 6.5 min / mile pace - really wish i had set up my Garmin correctly!!
What would you do differently?:

Warm up better; have smoothie earler; line up closer to the front, around the 7 min / mile folks
Post race
Warm down:

Ran another mile after race and then walked back; stretched; did some legs strength work

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Crowded course

Most episodes start with the tearing, giving-way sensation. This is localized about 1-2 cm inside the 10th rib on the side. How I might get a long term solution to this problem?

Pain shows us how strong we are. After last weekend I am convinced of this. After 151 training hours of swimming, biking, and running, I flew to Sonoma County, California for the race.
