Pre-race routine:

watch my daughter run her mile race. then ran a hard mile to get to my start line. I did some stretching during her race and before hers started.
Event warmup:

see above.

Did have an interesting experience. The day before I was running the chain saw and got a piece of wood in my eye. I thought I got it out but the day of the race my eye was really hurting and vision was blurry. I talk to the local medic at the event and she flushed my eye. This did not help and only moved the wood chip to a very uncomfortable location. It was to late to work on it some more so I said I would track her down after I ran. so during the run I was partially blind, and closed my eyes when I could and listened to the other runners around me. after the race I found the medic and we tried again. this time she saw a second piece that was actually stuck in my eyeball. So I decided to go to the urgent care and had to have it removed. Race was great Eye experience not so much.

Comments:

good smooth run. It was a PR and felt very smooth like I really was not pushing that hard.
What would you do differently?:

try to do some intervals to improve the pace.

Event comments:

this was a great running race and I see why so many people go and do it. I will be back.

I can train for half marathons on pavement and on trails, but as soon as I change it up to gravel or loose dirt my knee swells and the pain it causes is unreal. Any ideas why this happens?
