Subject: What are u guys doing nutrition wise?
I'm mainly talking on like a 2-2.5hr training session? I'm kinda sick of GU gel. Today I ate PB toast before I left stopped back home dropped bike off had a gel and ran. I really want another alternative. I use my camelbak for water as well

For fluids I like skratch  although I have used accelerade for a long time with great success as well.  As for solids I use twizzlers   Cheep, easy, they don't melt and if you cut them in half they fit in a bento box nicely.  They are basically sugar and flour.  You need carbs.  I like real food better than manufactured sports food and it keeps things simple.  I have used fig newtons too but its easy to get tired of them and they can be crumbly

I eat mostly Paleo and have to stay away from all gluten...so I either make my own stuff using nuts/figs/dates.

or if I don't have time to make anything, I use KIT Organic bars (from Cliff) or Rise bars

the fewer ingredients the better.

I will use Gu's at races but haven't used a GU in training in a long time!

Check out the cookbook: Feed Zone Portables - has lots of suggestions if you are up for making your own stuff.

I use fruit snacks. You can usually find a package of about 80 or so for 9.99 at Costco or maybe other grocery stores. If you look closely at the ingredients, they include most of the same stuff as your GU or other gels. The package is 80 calories and I use them on long rides. I only have raced sprint tris so I do not consume gels or gus on the bike, only a watered down gatorade. The cost of the fruit snack is a lot less than if you take 1-3 gus per ride.

I just drink gatorade. I make it from crystals. It's a lot cheaper than buying it in the bottle.

^^^^^ this.

I may have a coffee but then I'm good to go and can do up to about 3 hours of steady training. For any intense training I may need a banana or another real food.

For that distance I will usually just stick with water. Sometimes I will put Infinit in my other bottle.

 

For IM, I take Peanut Butter Clif Bars, Clif Shot Blocks, and Infinit. I haven't had a gel in a long time, never did like them, I prefer the shot blocks.

Anything over 1.5 hours where I know I'll be really working I'll take some shot blocks and some type of bar, along with a water bottle and Gatorade bottle. I very rarely finish all the blocks but like to have them if I drop the bar, or vice versa.

 On the bike I drink Gatorade mixed 50/50 with water.  Normally about one bottle per hour.

For long bike rides (+2.5 hours) PB&J sandwich cut in to quarters or Fig Newtons.   I don't get along well with gels.

Up to 2 1/2 hrs just a bottle of Gatorade does the trick. Of coarse keep your mouth open while riding near streams/lakes and your sure to get a little extra protein in the form of bugs!

Skratch Labs sports drink for 2 hours in heat. For long rides I've been taking Larabars, Honey Stinger Chews, and Skratch. Feedzone Portables has lots of good recipes. I recently made the sticky rice nut butter & preserves recipe, and I eat a couple of those prior to a long ride.

Good replys guys and girls!! And for the guys that say you just need water I agree up to 1hr of training but I feel I train better in the 2nd and 3rd hr if I eat some calories.

Rides up to 2hrs and runs to 1:30, nothing but water. Anything over that, I use GenR8 Vitargo with no solid food. Did a 2:30 ride with 2k climbing last weekend using Vitargo. Had plenty of energy the entire ride. Don't use gels any more because they make me sick and I don't like the spikes.
