Age Group Rank = 11/35
Pre-race routine:

Followed my pre-race eating routine. Day before race... big breakfast and taper eating. Wake at 2am and eat apple sause, banana, water.

Event warmup:

Get wet suit on early and swim around for a while. Listen to pre-race instructions on the beach. One thing to do better is scope out the swim exit. I examined all the entry/exits in transition, but not the swim water exit. This hurt my time because I ended up to far to the left of the exit.
Swim
  • 17m 22s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

Got off course at the end after last bouy. Make sure I know where to go. Scope out the swim exit.
Transition 1
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

I put vaseline on suit shins, this helped with getting it off quickly. Need to be faster. Get helmet on while getting my feet out of the suit... save time this way. Leave cap/goggles in sleeve suit!
Bike
  • 36m 6s
  • 11 miles
  • 18.28 mile/hr
Comments:

Work on getting in shoes better. How to best get feet in the shoes. Get fitter.
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

I had to sit down to get shoes on. Spent too much time on this. Should have been much faster.
What would you do differently?:

Unclip my helmet before getting to transition.
Run
  • 27m 44s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 57s  min/mile
Comments:

hamstrings cramping in first mile. Could not get up to speed until after mile 1. Steadily increaseed speed during the run. By the end was probably hitting 8 min miles. Garmin was hard to get going. practice starting it while on the run.

In addition to writing your race number on each upper arm, they also wrote your age on your calf. This allowed me to see who was passing me by in the bike section of this race.

Pain shows us how strong we are. After last weekend I am convinced of this. After 151 training hours of swimming, biking, and running, I flew to Sonoma County, California for the race.
