Subject: RE: 7-26 and 27th Weekend training - post em! Racing on Saturday in Oly in nearby town. Not very impressed with my results. 3rd in AG; 2:41:32. It would have taken sub-2:29 to win 45-49 women. (No, course is not short, either! We just have some amazing athletes in Oregon, particularly on the bike. ) Knew the swim and transitions would be difficult due to bruised ribs from recent mishap, and they were, but bike was not that great either. I hadn't calculated that riding in aero would also be kind of painful. I just suffer on the bike anyway so it didn't feel much worse than usual, but I don't think I was breathing properly and bike leg pretty slow. Cramped badly first mile of run but managed to get rid of it and then pushed the rest of the run very hard. The only satisfying part of the whole race is that I pushed the last miles of the run so hard that a woman who tried to hang with me had to stop and walk with 1/2 mile to go!
Probably last tri of season due to conflicts of fall SE Asia races with work demands. After a year of being consistently sick or injured for my races, but otherwise healthy and training consistently, and doing the same bike split umpteen times despite lots of training, about ready to "retire" from tri.
Sunday--Celebrated "retirement" (at least for this summer ) by riding 25 miles in about two hours and picking a couple quarts of blackberries en route.
