Overcast
Total Time = 2h 28m 57s
Overall Rank = 13/59
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 1/3
Pre-race routine:

BEETS (2.5 hours) and coffee (1.5 hours)
Event warmup:

3 min jog, stretch, 3 min jog
5 min bike
a few strokes in the water, mostly treading and getting acclimated; this worked perfect!
Swim
  • 27m 27s
  • 1200 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

Again much slower than I should be. How can I train to swim a 1:35/100 and then lose over 30 seconds? I don't get it. I did feel good out there though, with the chop. I made it a point to have fun and enjoy it. Forced to breathe on my left because of the waves, but that didn't kill me. I kept my breathing deep and steady so I didn't cramp. Happy with the process, the time is just driving me nuts.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe slow breathing down a bit more by going every 4th stroke, even though I felt it was a good rhythm. Also, I wish I would have 'thought' more about my stroke and maybe I would have had a better head position, hips, etc. that would have made me faster despite the chop.
Transition 1
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

Slow; just lolly gagging and talking
What would you do differently?:

Not 'hang out' chatting
Bike
  • 1h 11m 23s
  • 26 miles
  • 21.85 mile/hr
Comments:

Very rough roads; thought I flatted a few times. I took the hills well and powered up and down. Trading work with another in my age group pretty much the whole ride. No 'racing' in the park left me slowly following a sprint female for 0.3 miles. Probably at about a 10-12 mph pace. So aggrevating, but it was the rules.
What would you do differently?:

Can't really think of much; very happy with this bike split.
Transition 2
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

Good running dismount and moving through transition.
What would you do differently?:

If i have to ride that slow again I will try unbuckling shoes and riding on top.
Run
  • 47m 17s
  • 10 kms
  • 04m 44s  min/km
Comments:

Felt strong. Avoided any cramps, which I was very scared of getting again. I was highly focused on keeping deep breathing, which definitely helped. Once I got distracted from this I could tell the beginning of a cramp. I kept a strong HR, without becoming overworked which allowed me to keep getting faster throughout the run. Course measurement was off a bit though, as my watch never showed me more than 7:30/mile and I kept getting faster! But my overall was 7:37? Weird.
What would you do differently?:

Push a bit harder earlier... I think I could have gone faster, I was scared of the cramps. Next week I'll start really pushing it around mile 3 or so.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of water!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Waves and Hills.

Event comments:

Distances and maps were off, which threw pacing off. Late start, disorganized, and very rough roads and several rough train tracks. Will not likely be doing this again, which is unfortunate because it's my hometown!
