Pre-race routine:

Woke at 4:40 and was out the door at 5:05 for the 1 hour drive to the event. Picked up race package and chip, set up transition, and covered items as it was raining. Hit the porta-potties twice before the start of my swim wave at 8:28. Had my pre-race muffin and some coffee.
Event warmup:

Just watched the other waves go off until it was my time.
Swim
  • 30m 34s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 02s / 100 meters
Comments:

swam into lots of floating stringy weeds at parts of lake which would wrap around my face or arms, but just kept on swimming until they fell off. got bumped into/hit several times.
What would you do differently?:

try to navigate a little better.
Transition 1
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

This was my best T1 out of 3 tri's this year. Practicing getting my wetsuit off and over my heels paid off.
Bike
  • 1h 09m 21s
  • 24 miles
  • 20.76 mile/hr
Comments:

With it raining, everyone had to take it easier on turns and descending. Was not passed by anybody which always makes me happy.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

spent a few seconds saving the ride data on my garmin 510, but still happy with this time.
Run
  • 42m 48s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 06m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

Had a bit of a stitch for the first 2 miles, but this was a good comfortable run for me. Took a little bit until legs felt normal. About 1.5 miles into the run a woman ran past me at a strong pace. She was only person to pass me and she had a great run of 38:52
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Headed over to the chocolate milk booth and grabbed a bottle, then went next to Jersey Mikes to pick up part of a hoagie. Watched and cheered for other racers. Talked to a few people that live in central PA.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

weather

Event comments:

Race results include 7 people that raced in the Elite division. It was nice that they had immediate race results on computers just past the finish line. It was a well run race with everything on time.

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

Experts agree, doing a “mock,” triathlon on the course you’re racing can aid you in your training; performance and most of all quell some nervous energy.
