Pre-race routine:

Swam across the lake Saturday morning. Went to bed too late. Dragged Willie out of bed at the ungodly hour of 5:30. Granma Shirley stayed overnight so she would be here to sit as Y was sherping to the race. Hit the road at 6:30 and got there with plenty of time and no trouble parking. Packet pick up and set up transition. Talked to a few peeps and waved at Y taking pictures. Put my "Old Fart Cycling Team jersey on a got bottom of wetsuit on. As I walked down through the seaweed and into water I lost my goggles. Oh great 7 minutes to start and can't find them.
Event warmup:

Ran back to transition to retrieve my spare pair of goggles. Took a couple little sprints, lined up right one back.
Swim

Comments:

I have had much better swims. I have done as much training as I should be or has done in the past. Start was crowded but not to much of mixing it up. Rounded that first buoy well and started to catch the women's wave. Its triangle and and caught good number of girls. Well have way through the second leg. I almost gave a girl a rectal exam. Now with a wetsuit it won't be anything but she only had a building suit on and ended up giving her a good jab in her butt crease more near the whoha then the french cut. Came up but didn't get slapped. Its all part of the game.
I am feeling the swim from Saturday morning as it was choppy and little more difficult than I needed it be. Brought it home without any more medical testing. Exited and felt good started up the long sand run to transition. I was fighting to get my wet suit arms. Got a few " Get'er going Old fart"
What would you do differently?:

Leave the medical procedures out of the race. train more or at all.

Felt a little slow but time was OK.
Bike
  • 44m 56s

Comments:

Its hard to roll fat up hill. Starts with a flat and down hill so pasted a few. Then a hill so they pasted me back. After a few hills the 20 something lass asked my name and we leaped frog to the finish. The corners felt great and I was pasted by many stick guys and girls. Y was on the busy run/bike corner to cheer on the Old Fart and get the crowd laughing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

Got a few way to go Old fart coming in. Got to my spot well and sat on the ground to brush off my feet and grabbed what I needed. Headed out feeling OK to meet Y on the corner. .
Run
  • 31m 24s
  • 3.12 miles
  • 10m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

My bike lass past me in the first 1/4 miles. See ya Carrie thanks for the help trudging up hills. Lots of Old fart cheers. Almost as good as wearing a tutu. Hit the first hill and walk a little. Pull my self to the fire hydrant and start up again. By water stop and then second hill. Hay wait where is my lady with the hose, maybe the second loop. I Walk a little d/t back pain. Kerry pulls up to me and tells me he knows a PT that could help me with that. Haha. Start downhill and start to the busy corner and Y for a shot of motivation. She gives me a little kiss and off I go up to find that fire hydrant again. by the rest stop and up hill #2. There she is out with her hose. I ask her where has she been. She told me she was drinking coffee and eating bomboms. She hoses me down and off i go. short walk up hill #3 and take it home to finish witha few old fart cheers. Y photos the finish and hit 1:32. Happy with it.
Post race
Warm down:

Need to walk around and talk to peeps that Y met and other friends doing the tri.

Event comments:

Great place to race. Lots of volunteers from the community. Lots of support on the bike and run course with cheers coming from all over. Only 160 participants so not crowded. Th only problem was not being able to get breakfast after the race. Thanks Ken for offering and Y for jockstrapping me.

Medical exams during the swim----not exactly the kind of things that we do in this sport.  Don't we usually just beat the stuffing out of each other on the swim?

I've rested them for 6 weeks, twice. I've had Active Release Therapy, massages, I'm doing Trigger Point, and stretching. Yet, I'm still having issues and can't get above 3 miles.
