Subject: RE: knee injury recovery is //// what from my fam, lots of folks do not have surgery when acl is tor I tore up my knee years ago while skiing, and then really messed it up completely playing field hockey (had to be assisted back, knee swollen, couldn't walk for two days ). Was supposed to have ACL surgery but the doctor was going to be out for the week. After a few days my knee felt better, still sore but better. One day it felt sort of stable and I thought, heck getting surgery anyway, might as well go for a run! That went ok, so I ran again the next day. Ended up never going for the surgery. My knee 'buckled' many times over the next couple of years, so I would wear one of those articulating knee braces during any side to side activity. Ended up giving up all activity that most likely could screw up my knee; racquet ball, tennis, skiing, basketball, soccer, etc. I could run and bike with no issues so that was the trade-off. So now, years later, you can see the difference from my left knee (injury ) and my right knee; the left side (ACL or other ligament or whatever ) is probably twice the size of the one on the right due to compensating for the loss of stability.
However, if the same thing happened to me now, I'd get the surgery.
