Overall Rank = 290/1900
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 50/
Swim
  • 1h 16m 38s
  • 4224 yards
  • 27m 13s / 1500 yards
What would you do differently?:

Swim a lot more...
Transition 1
  • 04m 50s
Bike
  • 5h 50m 19s
  • 112 miles
  • 19.18 mile/hr
Comments:

I could have used more salt on the bike and had a little better flat change (or ideally no flat). Overall the course is hard. It would have been nice to pre-ride the course. If I race again next year, I will get up there at least once before. Fit issue had major impact on my foot for the run. Fixing that will help dramatically on both bike power and running.
What would you do differently?:

Fix bike fit issues in the shoe
Transition 2
  • 05m 3s
Comments:

My legs were cramping up a bunch from the low salt intake on the bike. I took a minute to get a bottle of water and take a salt tab. Once I got moving things seemed ok.
What would you do differently?:

Less sitting but I think nutrition should fix this.
Run
  • 4h 23m 53s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 10m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

Volume was good. I had to walk from some major pain in my feet from the bike fit issue.
What would you do differently?:

Ideally less walking but the foot issues seemed to cause that more then fitness.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Foot issues, flat and low salt intake.

I have about 9k miles on my bike, what needs to be done, checked or replaced to be sure it is in tip-top shape? I'm racing IM Canada this summer.

I will be 20 this summer and am planning on doing Ironman Montreal. This will be my first year of triathlon, can I do this and stay away from injuries?

Byrn won’t hold your hand through the long hours and miles required finishing or for success in an IM, he can only show you how to get there. The work is up to you.
