Subject: Running Watch
My Garmin 305 battery needs to be replaced. Going to send it back to Garmin for a new battery, what I can buy in the mean time? I just want distance, time and pace. It needs to last for a marathon. Thanks.

I recently bought a Timex Ironman Easy Trainer GPS watch.  I would categorize it as an entry-level GPS watch.  It has all the basic things: time, distance, pace, calories, intervals, & auto-splits. You can store workouts, but no computer interface.  You can get them for about $80.

Mine works well.  The only complaint is that the beeper for the interval timer is barely audible.

I have a Nike Fitness+. The computer website is very good. GPS mapping of the runs is a fun review, and you can look at splits, elevation changes, etc. The watch is a little bulky, but not heavy. Immediate post run reading of time and pace is helpful.

I recommend picking up a Garmin Forerunner 10.  They are solid, dependable, and cheap.  I recently picked up a refurbished one for $90ish.  It'll give you everything you want, and still be integrated into Garmin.

What are they charging you to replace the battery? Mine is in bad shape as well.
