Be careful out there, folks. I remember this at happening at the TdF a few years ago.

Unbelievable. My big brother did this race and had a flat on his front tire (didn't think it was from thumbtacks). He did mention other folks flatting and one with a tack. The bike support couldn't keep up with the tubes that they needed. Here's a link to his RR (bike section goes into a lot of detail about the flats) if you are interested in a first hand account:

this has happened in two races I have done.  In I think 2002?? maybe.  The Riverwatch Triathlon in Northeast, MD.  The RD had done that race for ten years there.  Some jerk put out tacks in the am AFTER the course was swept. He ended up quitting the RD business. Sad b/c he was one of the first in the Midatlantic area with a race calendar. any folks remember triath.com?

Then it happened in 2012 at IM Loo.  There were also jerks that dressed in camo and jumped out at people from behind bushes at the top of a hill. I kid you not...

i've seen this before.  happens where i live each year when the state championship road race is held near me.  usually the locals aren't smart enough to check ahead for the dates of the race and do it the day of after a few CATs have gone.  usually only the Pro/1/2 racers get hit at that point.

It happens in the Denver/Boulder area too, both during races and just at random times.  There's one particular route on which there's a lot of animosity between cyclists and residents that's always a hot spot.  Fortunately nobody's been hurt.

Read about this on Velo News. So sad. Thought about doing the HIM up there this year. I wouldn't expect this from that community. Sux.

I remember the guys in camo in 2012 at IMLOU.

There were also tacks at IMLOU in 2010
