Total Time = 1h 28m 53s
Overall Rank = 52/145
Age Group = 40 - 49
Age Group Rank = 11/24
Pre-race routine:

I've never really had a routine... Got out of bed, ate a little apple cinnamon cherrios and then headed out with Robert (our avid race volunteer, thanks to all of them!!!)
Event warmup:

Walked my bike to transition.. is this a warm-up?
Sat down and watched the Olympics off on their swim... wow there are some fast swimmers out there...
When my time came to get ready I squeezed myself into my wet-suit and headed down to the beach to get acclimatized to the water. Swam a couple of strokes and then waited with the masses close to shore for the starting horn to sound.
Swim
  • 14m 34s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 56s / 100 meters
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster...
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

Included in bike on official time, see below for reasoning.

Wetsuit got stuck on my arm

I think my transitions were around 3:45 because I took a quick look at my bike computer time headed into T-2 and it was between 39 and 40 minutes, so I will split this time 2:30 for T-1 and 1:15 for T-2 because of the wetsuit issue in T-1
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to undress myself...
Bike
  • 40m 1s
  • 20 kms
  • 29.99 km/hr
Comments:

Not sure where this came from... should have been able to do better.
What would you do differently?:

Bike a lot faster...
Transition 2
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Included in bike on official time, see T1 for reasoning.
What would you do differently?:

Figure out how to dress myself...
Run
  • 30m 34s
  • 5.5 kms
  • 05m 34s  min/km
Comments:

Flat, so I should have been able to push harder. A fitness thing I guess.
What would you do differently?:

Run a lot faster...
Post race
Warm down:

Sat in a chair and ate some of the great post race

Event comments:

It seemed as though there was a marshal missing at the turn into Chaparral on the run course. It wasn't very well marked and I saw one person actually miss the turn in and have to turn around to go to the finish line.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

The first time I ventured into the deep murky green lake and could not see the bottom my muscles tensed and my imagined fears surfaced. What exactly lies beneath?
