My favorite run shorts are my tri shorts. Nobody cares. If doing a brick, I go in what I wear for a race- tri shorts. Anybody sees me in them, that's their good fortune. Wear them, own it, love it.

I always run in tri shorts with a pair of gym shorts over them. It takes me about 3 seconds to throw them on. I like to think of it as extra drag for training, so when racing I feel so much faster. (believe me, I need all the help I can get).

If it's early morning or I am away from other people, I'll wear tri shorts, but otherwise I'll wear running shorts. I don't care myself, but I know it does make others feel uncomfortable. I love to run without a shirt, but even if I take it off, I'll run with it in hand in case I pass near some children or families.

I hadn't really brought up the shirt thing. I'm in South Florida (Keys) and I never run with a shirt. Regardless of tact, it's just too dang hot an humid and that's where I really draw the line. Between December and February it gets cool enough that I go back and forth between shirt and no shirt. Maybe that's a bigger piece to this puzzle. When I am talking about wearing tri shorts; I'm talking about ONLY wearing tri shorts. So that may make it a different story. Tri shorts with a tri top is a bit better, but again, it's just too hot. I had been training in a tri top and just couldn't take it. For my brick workouts now, I ride in my tri shorts and top, then go to my car, take off the top and throw on running shorts over my tri shorts. Whatever I wear gets completely saturated with sweat and really heavy. That's why I stopped wearing the top, it was like wet towel/sponge. However, when I sweat through my tri shorts, the running shorts get soaked and it gets really constricting and uncomfortable...which is why I brought this up in the first place.

I run in lycra. Either tights, 3/4 length tights, shorts or tri shorts.

On warm days, apart from shoes and socks, that's all I wear. I'm 6`2", 9% body Fat, and a poser! I did hear that having big biceps help with tri though...

The only time I felt self conscious was when I was running from work at lunch. We have a couple showers and some lockers in the basement and to get outside you have to go up the stairs, down a hall and through the lobby. One day I forgot my shirt and had to run the gauntlet in my tri shorts and shirtless. There were a few raised eyebrows.

I'm no fitness model, but I'm 5'11" 160 and I float around 10% body fat. So I'm in decent shape. That makes me feel even more self conscious though. It's like, if a fit woman wears tight, scantily clad clothing to work out, the consensus is "woo hoo", when it's a dude it's "what a show off". For example, I wave hi to just about everyone I pass (see the other thread on "snobs") and I have noticed that when it is cool enough here to wear a shirt, people are WAY nicer and more likely to wave/say "good morning" back.
