In for the half. Second time at B2B. Long range forecasts are calling for colder than normal temps. Bring lots of layers!!

I raced the full last year and the half the year before. Both times, the water was cool (mid to high 60s), but I saw ppl wearing sleeveless wetsuits.

If you have sleeves, I think you'd probably want to wear them, but if you don't, then you should be ok...

Good luck!

This will be my second B2B half.

Last year I swam in a sleeveless and felt great. It was a relief getting in the water after sitting around in the cold air temps!!

I did the Wilmington ymca sprint today. the swim was in the same channel, many did it without a wet suit at all. I know the water will be colder but I'm sure you will be fine with sleeveless.

Does anyone have advice for spectators? I have some family coming down, including my wife with a 6 y.o. Will lit be possible for them to see both t1 and t2 and or anywhere along the bike or run?

Swim start: not possible
T1- very possible. It is BUSY there though and a lot of fun watching the athletes come out of the water and run to T1. Your kidlet will be entertained while watching for you.
T2- it is inside a building (unless they changed it) so it is quite congested and not that nice for spectators. What is better is to park your crew near the finish line of the race because you run right by there on the start of the run. And then they could always drive to a spot along the run route to see you again (you'd have to find a good location but anywhere along the course is fine because it is an out and back) and they would see you there. Or just have em see you at the start of the run, then mill about downtown and wait for the end.

ETA: The ride is out in the boonies so I would give them that time off from trying to see you!

I'll be there for the fourth year in a row. Doing half this year (did full last year, half other two years) .

I'm really hoping for warm dry weather this year. More conducive to a PR. Last year was freeeeezing.

Whatever comes, I love this race. Can't wait!!!!

T1 and T2 are in different locs, as you probably already know. On the morning of the race, there are usually a ton of ppl at T1, watching ppl get ready. Energy is definitely high! They'll be able to hang out and watch you from outside T1. Once you're set up, you'll have to get on a bus to the swim start. Family can't ride the buses as they're for athletes only.

The swim start for the full is pretty neat, and the start for the half is cool, too, but I think parking is pretty limited.

IMO, they're prob just best hanging out at the finish area. I don't know if you're racing the full or half, though, and they could be hanging out there for a while, depending on how long your run takes. I usually give my wife a time range that I **think** I'll be finishing in so they don't have to hang out in the finish area for hours upon hours.

Yikes!

On a time crunch to get everything ready for B2B!

A month ago, I sent my ZIPP rear wheel to Powertap to have the power meter replaced. The wheel came back cracked and broken (probably happened in shipment)! So they are sending me a new wheelset. I'm going to have to have the power meter transferred to this new wheelset and hope to have it done by the end of next week.

My P2 developed a crack in the seat post area. Cervelo stated today that they'd replace the frame. So, they're shipping a new frame to my LBS with an ETA of one week from today. LBS is going to have to transfer everything over (with a week to go). I'm going to HOPEFULLY have at least 2 rides on the bike before B2B.

This is nerve racking! Everything seemed to happen right before the darn race! SOOOOO typical.

DOOD-good to see you again. (Usual GA poster)
Had a similar thing happen last year pre-B2B-I took my bike in to have the wheels changed and a tune up...I get a call.."frank did you know your frame is cracked?" ??!!??WTF??!!?? No
Kestrel service awesome, new frame-ready to roll come race day.

Wetsuit 2c = The water is not the problem, the air AFTER is. I could have swam 2.4 last year. Yes last year was abnormally cold 36 degrees at teh start of the half. I got in did the "get used to it dunk" and came up--> I think some water froze ON my face--> I went back under. I wore a full sleeve, but would have been comfy in a sleeveless too. The after just SUCKED! Frozen feet (with toe covers), frozen legs for the first few miles, frozen hands (with gloves), frozen face. Everything warmed during the bike (winds werent that bad-no rain-sun) feet warmed last-meh 1 mile into the run.

My dlimea this year is what to wear on the bike. Last year T1 took too long and I think it was because of the long sleeve, gloves, and donning it all that caused it. The run was BEAUTIFUL-70s. I also avoided the croc-yeah you read that right.

Looking to crush it this year
Fingers crossed on weather, although its getting colder per weather.com (pfft) Cold Ill tolerate-rain- I HATE!

It was COLD last year!! Here's a recommendation for you reference bike gear: Arm and leg warmers, gloves, and a yard trash bag folded and placed under the front of your shirt to cut the wind and also trap a little body heat.

If you begin to get too warm, slide the sleeves down or unzip the ankles and pull the leg warmers up. The trash bag.... Hand it off to one of the course volunteers.

Enjoy!

Not sure if this helps but thought I'd pass along.

An easy fix to finding your bicycle after getting out of water in a large grp race like B2B. Tie a balloon or a bright colorful item to the end of bicycle rack. Of course you have to remember the balloon or item that you left at rack, which can be hard when adrenalin comes into play.

Also* This has nothing to do with above*. I was in Bermuda s/p inaugural tri event that hasn’t been repeated. It's lovely island with lots of good folks that I came to know. I am wishing all there a safe rebound from storm.

Wut?

Did I miss something?

I'm not quite sure either. eppie was responding to a post I made on the official thread, but I'm not quite sure. JoeK made a comment about using ribbon on the T1/T2 bags to make recovery easier and I though that made good sense since it's hard to ID your black number on a white bag amongst thousands of bags... At first I though eppie was referring to something I did, but then I don't talk ALOT about SBR since I've made barely more than 200 posts in three or four years....

A little help?

Weather is looking awesome!!! While we are dropping a little during the HI, we are gaining on the bottom side in the morning!! I'm heading to the garage to do a final cleaning on Gruñón (Grumpy) and remove any lingering debris from the tires. I'll be packing up tonight so that all I have to do is load the truck in the morning.

I'm departing tomorrow morning so that I can go down and arrange parking by the Hilton for Saturday and enjoy a relaxing afternoon and Friday. Really looking forward to seeing everyone, it's going to be a blast, especially with the ideal conditions that we will hopefully have!
