Pre-race routine:

Had a rough night at the hotel - could not sleep
Got up early and arrived at the race site
Took a while to get organized as rain kept on for awhile
ate and drank pre-race food as usual

Event warmup:

went for a quick swim
Did some stretches
saw family and said see you in 5.5 hours

Comments:

Great swim overall - conquered it I think
Got hit in face at 300m and cut lip
one guy tried to pull me under at 1.3 so kick hard and developed a (R) calf cramp
was going strong until last 2 turns where i seemed to have gone straight down instead of making a sharp turn so swam an extra 150m
What would you do differently?:

Nothing may be not wear tinted glasses when it is overcast
Continue to work on swim all winter

I struggled from 6-7 onwards with walks and run
Felt sick and unwell
Worried about having a #2 accident
Started drinking coke at 12 - Dufferin Island
What would you do differently?:

Drink Coke earlier
Do more brick after long rides

Spent time with family - emotional as first half-iron distance for me
Stretched - took pictures
Saw some team mates
Got organized to go home


What limited your ability to perform faster:

Did not have enough mental power to get going

My issue is that I am currently deployed and training outside is proving difficult, especially on the bike. I have found a safe 10km running loop but I am struggling with the bike training.

I just had a couple of problems, I could count the number of triathlons I had contested at zero. Secondly, I could count on one hand the number of times I had been swimming in the last 17 years.
