Swim
Comments: Sucked. Felt confident going in - that I wouldn't drown. Test swims on both Friday (suited) and Sat (unsuited) went very well - laborous, but well. Decided to save some time in transition and forego the wetsuit during the race - not sure if this caused a problem with regard to swim time - perhaps it did - but I thing the challenge of getting out of the suit would have cost an equal anmount of time in transition. What would you do differently?: Train more. Easier said than done when talking about open ocean swim training in AZ, but I need to get my face in the water as much as possible. Transition 1
Comments: No wetsuit to deal with, which is good. Had cap and goggles off during the run from the beach. Had to put on shirt, then realized I forgot the HR strap. Time included in Bike split. What would you do differently?: Wear the HR strap and shirt during the swim. Bike
Comments: Dropped chain after first turn - still not sure why. Wasn't shifting, already in big ring and had been pedaling steady and was building speed - then WHAM. Nothing but spin. Had to stop to get it back on - Once corrected, the bike went well (considering the rain) - 19.5 avg speed. 28.6 max speed Cad avg - 85. max 102. Ride time - 27:00 What would you do differently?: Need to work out output - get faster - push a bit harder, sooner. Looking back, I really didn't train very much in July - wonder what my deal was... Transition 2
Comments: Cramped right calf pulling shoe off, OUCH. Left helmet on.... was told I was 4th person to do so... nice. Transition split included in bike split What would you do differently?: Practice running without socks - save big time there.. Run
Comments: Wet and rainy - good run - if it were a training day... Need to learn how to push past 150 bpm... More speedwork in the coming months. Felt lazy at the beginning (probably due to the calf cramp) - really picked it up at the end - had waaaaay to much in the tank when I finished. Should've needed a stretcher, instead I was just chillin... What would you do differently?: Run till I puke. Post race
Warm down: None What limited your ability to perform faster: Dropped chain and general suckiness... I never push hard enough, always saving for something else. In hindsight, I would've rather blown up on the bike and struggled through the run than finish with a goofy ass grin on my face. Last updated: 2006-07-30 12:00 AM

Warning - TMI ahead....
Rough night, no sleep due to GI issues. Tried eating some sugar-free mentos to get things moving for the AM, but when combined with a stack of Fig Newtons - I was woken up by the grumblings of an upset stomach around 12:45 and never settled back down. Ouch. Coffee in the morning pushed things along, though never felt entirely comfortable during the race.
None - stood there on the beach and shivered - while grumbling about whether or not I should put the wetsuit on.
