Games of Acadiana
Sunny
Total Time = 41m 31s
Overall Rank = 12/142
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 1/5
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4, two bagels with coffee, shower, shave, twenty-minute drive to site.
Event warmup:

Five-minute run at cadence, then rode one loop of the bike course with spin-ups to 27mph.
Swim
  • 03m 29s
  • 200 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not a bad swim. Caught the young lady in front of me at the first turn, passed her but neither passed nor was passed by anyone the rest of the way. Maintained an easy pace sufficient to keep my breathing and HR in check.

Last year's time, 3:33
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

Not bad, given the distance (40 yds?) we had to cover with the bike.

Last year's time, 0:56
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 21m 12s
  • 8.25 miles
  • 23.35 mile/hr
Comments:

Uneventful. Breeze was blowing out, so I'd ride 26-27mph going out and 23-24 coming in. Lots of turns knock down the average.

Last year's time, 21:46 (course was 1/4-mile longer?)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 00m 46s
Comments:

OK.

Last year's time, 0:46!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 14m 50s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Even though it's only 8am, still too hot for a best all-out effort. Paced to the point of incurring a stitch, then backed off a little. Passed several on the run, which usually doesn't happen.

Last year's time, 15:28
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed a couple waters, then went out to find Angel on the course. Gave her a water and cheered her on to finish her first rei.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing, this was a near-perfect effort. Faster than last year in every segment, beat last year's time (42:29) by a minute. Not wuite the sub-40 I was looking for, but good enough for rock 'n' roll.

Old Guys Ruled in this race. Results had two guys in my AG ahead of me, but they won the "Masters" and Grand Masters" awards so were taken out of the AG pool, leaving me to finish first. I was 12th overall, Top 12 included 3 of us in 50-54 and 2 more in 55-59, so 5 out of 12 were old farts over 50. So I beat all but six of the non-AARP racers; only two men under 40 beat me. There were eleven age groups for men and I would have won seven of them, finished second in three. The only one I would have finished third in is the age group OLDER than mine.

Event comments:

Good little race, good mix of first-timers, experienced racers and speed demons. Short, fast course, smooth surfaces and traffic controlled. Benefits the Miles Perret Center, a local cancer support organization.

Alright, not a great picture, but here's a shot of me getting the blue ribbon. Also a post-race family shot and one of Angel running (!) to the finish line.

Nice pics bear.  The family photo has the "Soviet History Book Look" kind of like you were added or changed later.  Maybe it is the hair.
