Sunny
Total Time = 1h 56m 54s
Overall Rank = 105/216
Age Group = F40-49
Age Group Rank = 11/44
Pre-race routine:

It is always hard to know what/when to eat for a 1pm start. I ate normal breakfast and then a granola morning in the late morning. I had my usual pre-run breakfast (bagel/PB/banana) for lunch in the car on the way to the race. I was intending to take the shuttle up to the college, but I ran into Beth so I drove to the start and we left her car at the finish. I picked up my packet, found the restroom, and then went back to the car to get ready.
Event warmup:

None other than trying to stay warm waiting to start.
Run
  • 1h 56m 54s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

This went surprisingly well considering that I had raced yesterday and the wind today. The first mile or so I was a little blah, but then I seemed to pick up. Felt really good most of the way. Chugged up the big hill and just cruised down the hillls. I was suprised how many people I passed especially on Caton Rd/Park Ave. The last 2 miles and especially the last mile were just brutal going into the wind!

I was pleased with my time though given I had raced yesterday.
What would you do differently?:

Not much - maybe a little more mental focus in the first few miles and push a little harder over the last mile.
Post race
Warm down:

Not much. Walked to cafeteria with Matt. Milled around and talked to people and then caught a ride with Beth back to my car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

WIND and racing yesterday! My PR is 1:53ish so given better conditions and on fresh legs I probably would've been in that ball park.

Event comments:

For a race this size and for what it costs now, there really should be chip timing!

Course: Standard Red Baron - Starting at CCC, HILLY for first 5 miles, then down hill for ~ 5miles, then mostly flat. They changed the finish to end at Corning East instead of the Y. Other than having to run over some curbs in the last little bit, it wasn't bad and was a nice set-up for the post race stuff.

I just ran the Boston Marathon under nine minute miles, can I run eight minute miles for my half Ironman training runs? Or should I go slower?

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09

Steady is our walk. Ignoring the pain that is radiating from my feet, I continue to place one foot in front of the other. Again I wonder, “Why am I doing this?”

Having three seasons under my belt I thought I knew what I was doing. That all changed with a few new challenges and a bunch of new friends.

This program should be used for an athlete whose goal is to run a marathon in the 1:30-2:30 range and has a good running base in the past 8-12 weeks.

I will assume you have not run consistently more than 6 miles and have never completed a half-marathon. I believe running your first half-marathon is a big task which requires dedication and work.

My training was taking off. I had never felt stronger. I was making bigger strides than I ever had. I was stronger and faster than I had imagined myself ever being.
