Oops - sorry Lumber Dad and Mountaindan. I was mixed up and mashed your names together.

Mountaindan - my message is in reference to your message about having trouble adding your name.
Don

Haha I caught that, but din't want to be my typical smart a$$ self and say anything. Understandable considering our screen names.

Yes it seems to be working now. Thanks for setting it all up!!

-10 wind chill this morning. Added an extra base layer and wasn't too bad, even managed to keep my phone from getting too cold.

It's good that you're back - the time off certainly didn't hurt your place in the standings. I hope everything went well with the surgery.
On Sunday I leave for a week long cross country ski holiday. The forecast looks pretty cold which should be good for a few points.

I'm pretty excited about it - doing the XC Supercamp. I did it last year and it was great.

I haven't really thought of doing a birkie but I might try some smaller (and shorter) races.

Is the spreadsheet up yet? How can access it?
Except for a couple of brief breaks it hasn't risen above freezing here since the end of October.

The scoring spreadsheet has a "Metric Calculator" tab which you can use to calculate points for your activities. Enter the length of activity, temp in
Celsius, wind in KPH, precipitation etc - and the spreadsheet will automatically make the conversions and calculate your score. Put all of your activities for one week in one of the colour zones and there is a sum on the far right that shows the total for the week/colour.

My big week is finished - I spent a very enjoyable week of vacation, cross country skiing at Silver Star resort near Vernon BC. I managed at least four hours of activity each day for five days. Temperatures started out cold but warmed up over the week - which made for very enjoyable skiing but not necessarily a ton of points. Now back to reality, work etc.

I was disappointed that it was too warm at my race yesterday. I'm not sure that's a normal reaction to 40 degrees.

Hi bigevilgrape
I noticed that you added your name to the spreadsheet. Welcome aboard.
Yes this contest can definitely create some warped thinking.
The weather was quite warm in Calgary this week. Today was the only day that was cold enough to count any points. Really hoping for some snow for the ski trails.

Winter bowling on New Year's Eve day. I managed to get out of town for a few days of rest and relaxation with my family. No points for the bowling but I did manage to do some skating and running. The weather was pleasant for my getaway but I'm back in town now and the weather has turned much colder (-19 Celsius / - 2 F)

Greetings: So I know it's January but I'm wondering if you'll let me enter the challenge? Last year after biking indoors and almost going nuts, I vowed to see how long I could go without resorting to riding the trainer. So far, so good.

Let me know if you've got a spot and thanks for the consideration!

Hi Qua17
Welcome aboard - we don't turn people away. You can add your name to the spreadsheet and start tracking.

We're having a warm spell here in Calgary - I don't think I will be counting many points this week.

OKay I am in! To start off, today I rode up Donner Pass (from Truckee, CA up Old 40) in 20 degree, windy (at least 10mph winds with some gusts) weather and so let's see...that's what 6 points?

50min X 6 = 300 Suckitude

Yeah that seams about right...wasn't too bad...do I get an extra point for taking beanie (under my helmet) off on an incline without stopping and holding it the whole way?

Training in the cold can be effective and fun with some planning. Overall, prepare for the environment, stay hydrated and dry, listen to your body and have a great safe cold weather outing.
