Anyone signed up for this one. I just did my first at Alligator's creek, and I think I have my wife talked into tri-ing.

I did it last year, and while it could be a little chilly, RexPlex is a good race. Go for it!

After Lake St. Louis, I'm taking a break, but I'm thinking I'll volunteer for the Fall RecPlex race.

I skipped the Alligator Creek Tri to focus on my first Oly Tri.  I'll be there.

Great to see you anxious for another one Joe!

I just signed up yesterday and I'm already looking forward to it.  That would be awesome if your wife wanted to give it a shot too.

See you out there,

I'm in for sure. This will be my way of measuring my improvement over the summer in triathlon. I did the course in June and can't wait to see how i'll do in October.

Joe you should definately do this one, its fun. The bike and the run courses are both very flat so its typically a pretty fast race even though the distances are a little longer than some other sprints.

How is the T1 set up?  Do you have to go far from the pool to your rack?

Glad to hear the run is flat. Ran 5 miles this morning on some serious hills and kind of hurt my knee. It'll be ok though. Got a new bike yesterday so I'm ready to tri.

How does the swim work? It's my understanding that you are not started by swim time. At Alligator's Creek you could only pass at the end of the lane. That hurt my time since I messed up and didn't give an accurate swim time.

last time around they started us thirty seconds apart. If you needed to pass somone you could tap them on the ankle and then go around them on the right. Each lane only has swimmers going in one direction unlike alligator creek where you swam down and back in the same lane, so you couldn't pass on the right. At rec plex its just like driving slower people are supposed to stay to the right so others can pass on the left.

I liked the way it was done at alligator creek a little better though because in June at rec plex i got started behind a lot slower swimmers and had to pass several in a short disatance. I still really enjoy this race. You run a decent distance from the pool to the transition area, but no more than the transition run at alligator creek.

Let us know if you have anymore questions about the race, several BT'ers did the race in June.

How many water/aid stations?

Which areas are the most advantagous to pass others?

Was there any issues with traffic I can expect?

If the same course is beeing used, are the run and cycling portions really that flat?  Say, as flat as Creve Coeur Park?  Forrest Park?

Let's see, I think I remember there being 2 water stations on the run. But it was kind of an excruciatingly painful blur to me.  So hopefully somebody else will confirm.

Being that it's a nice 50m pool, there's plenty of room to make passes. I mean, in a 25yd pool where somebody is coming head on to you while you're trying to pass is awful, but rec-plex solves that problem by spacing out the swimmer, and only swimming in 1 direction in every lane.

You have to cross train tracks a couple times on the bike course, but otherwise, I would say traffic is a non-issue.  And 90% of the course is flat. the first mile or 2 on the way out is a bit up and down, the next 16 are extremely flat, and the last couple miles are slightly tougher.

The run seemed "bumpy" to me. Maybe it was all the twists and turns and bridges, etc that made it feel slow to me.  But there were no long smooth stretches like you'll find at Creve or Forrest. Those have a much much more "open" feel to them, in my opinion.

Ditto-

Swim. Passing in lanes 1-2 of the swim could be tough because they are narrower than the later lanes, but it can be done. They space swimmers out enough that if you need to pass early, you can without too much insanity.

Bike. Pass at will. It's a fast course. A few hills out and at the end but flat and rural. Dogs might be more of a problem than traffic, but I have only seen dogs, not seen them run after bikes. Very easy to leave it all out on this bike course and have not enough left for the run.

Run. I agree with getsome. Bumpy and NARROW. It's on the trails around RecPlex which require you to run UPHILL before crossing any road. You can't get two people wide very easily so pass in the grass and watch out for people coming back at ya.

Good race. You should do it.

How's everybody doing in preparation for the race?

I'm a little frustrated with my training lately. I'm not sure I even remember what my bike looks like!

I'm looking forward to ending the season with a great race though.

I've totally slacked - kind of had to - still nursing the knee.  Going to a sports medicine doctor tomorrow.

It's funny, I've read about how people have a lot more energy and sometimes are cranky when they are tapering.  I don't think you could call my situation "tapering", but I definatley have more energy and I bet my wife would say I've been cranky.  Good evidence would be that I'm doing this at almost 11pm and will proably still get up at 6am.

Going to OKC to check out the Redman tri tomorrow and taking Joey with me.  If anyone is interested I'll give a report.

Good luck with your last week of preparation, we will see you all at Rec Plex.

That may be a blessing 'cause it's going to be COLD.  Did I mention that I hate cold?  I'm such a wuss.

I start at 8:30 and change.

I'm getting excited, especially for my wife, this is her first.  I'm still having a little issue with the knee and have big plans for next year starting in Feb.  I want to spend the winter training not healing, so I may only do the swim and bike portions, but it will still be fun.

Anyone thought about trying to meet after the race?  I missed everyone but getsome at the Alligator's Creek.  Is there a good spot?

FINALLY I heard from someone about volunteering! I'm really excited to be part of the race without actually doing it (because last year, I remember coming into T2 screaming "my toes are frozen!" Seriously, I couldn't run well until they defrosted!) I can't wait to cheer you guys on and maybe meet a few of you that I haven't met yet!

hey man,

knee is not good. i ran a 5k this morning it hurt very badly.  needless to say, i'm sitting here icing my knee until i can't feel it any more.

how hard i go tomorrow will depend on what my time looks like 1/2 way thru the bike course.

we'll just have to find eachother early in the AM. i'll be there early enough to get a good transition spot for Attack Mode.

See you there!~B

I'm definitely not qualified to give medical advice, but I will.  My ex-bro-in-law is a PT and he said to ice 10-12 minutes on and 10-12 off.  Something about the detrimental effects of too cold for too long.  (like the law of diminishing returns)

Hang in there - see you tomorrow
