Subject: My Craziest Tri story yet--I went to the vet and came back with a P2!
I used to post plenty of wacko training stories on the Iron Distance forum when I was training for my last HIM, but my training life's been pretty dull for the past few years. Thanks to coursework and more traffic where I live, lots of trainer rides and 5 AM runs. (Okay, I did get chased by a water buffalo on an MTB ride last year, but other than that......). Finally, something to contribute:

This morning I took my cat for a dental procedure at the vet's, which is in an expat enclave on the other side of the city. I almost never go the except for the vet, and had to wait for about four hours, so figured I would kill time by eating brunch and then checking out tri bikes at a new shop which opened there in the fall. Supposedly they were planning to stock some. Drop off kitty, eat, and go to the shop.....when what to my wondering eyes should appear but a secondhand Cervelo P2 in what turns out to be my size. Did a preliminary fitting, took it for a spin first on the trainer then on some nearby quiet streets, paid a deposit, and was allowed to take home my new steed. Heading back next week to finish up the fitting ( was going to put on the pedals from my road bike, but looking at them, they're in such sorry shape that maybe I shood get some new ones) and pay the rest.

Rode it back to the vet, and the vet assistant was nice enough to get me a very forgiving taxi driver. i really don't recommend a tri bike and a 15 pound cat being transported together, but it can be done.

I love that P2. I looked for a year or so for that specific bike but didnt have the nerve to buy one of eBay . Is that a 2010?Good luck with it. ETA - your cat needs an aero helmet and the seats too high for he or she!

2010 or 2011--not sure and neither was the guy at the bike shop. Being sold by a departing expat who rarely used it. Most people with tri bikes here use them mainly for trainer and racing, so they age pretty well. Yes, it's a bit big for kitty, and I think the smaller one who likes to jump on my aerobars won't fit as well on these bars, either. Had a great trainer ride with it PM--sweet! Much more comfortable in aero even without tweaking saddle, pedals, etc. (doing that next week as I want to consider switching with my road bike ones or getting new ones, switching out the saddle or just sticking to what came with the bike).

Best part was trying it out while wearing a dress and earrings--I did have the presence of mind to put in a pair of bike shorts on the off chance I wanted to test ride anything, but in the rush to round up the cat forgot to put in a jersey or T-shirt.

Sweet, suppose your going to change out those platform pedals? Look a little goofy on a tri bike

That's better than going to the bike shop and coming back with a cat!

Yes, it's Smudgee. Tomoko is half the size. She'd need a Rinny-size bike with 650 wheels. As for going to the bike shop and coming back with a cat, with me, it's actually a lot more plausible. Bike shop and animal rescue shelter are dangerously close to one another. It's a sweet ride but due to work and travel schedule, probably won't take it on the road until I get back from winter break. Did a trainer ride with it on Sunday--as I mentioned, MUCH more comfortable in aero.
