Sunny
Total Time = 2h 52m 17s
Overall Rank = 48/62
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 5/6
Pre-race routine:

Normal Breakfast and got to transition with plenty of time. Race was supposed to be a Tri but fog canceled swim. Did a short warm up in the water before they canceled the swim.
Event warmup:

In the water for about 5 min.
Run
  • 27m 51s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

PR for 5k!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing I went pretty hard and was surprised I had some left for second run.
Transition 1
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

Fell while running out of transition and gouged my lower shine on chain-ring. Didn't even notice until I finished the race how bad the cut was. My cycling shoe looked like a crime scene though.
What would you do differently?:

Practice my transition and take less time changing and not be in so much of a hurry to run out of transition.
Bike
  • 1h 14m 26s
  • 24.8 miles
  • 19.99 mile/hr
Comments:

Very pleased with my bike split. I averaged 20mph on an old Trek 5500 road bike with clip on aerobars.
What would you do differently?:

Want to upgrade my bike before next race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 50s
Comments:

Transitions need a lot of work as I was slower than most in the field
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitions
Run
  • 1h 06m 18s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 10m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Not enough fluids provided by race due to only 1 aide station on run course. Felt good for first 3 miles then I tried to pick up my pace around mile 4 and legs said no way dude. Quads beginning to cramp at mile 5 and had to slow down to get in to the finish
What would you do differently?:

More run training. I was not prepared to run 9 miles for this race. Longest training runs were 6 miles.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for a while and just was happy to be finished

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cancellation of the swim. I am a swimmer and I know I would have had a decent swim time that would have put me in front of some of my competition.

Event comments:

Fog cleared just before they started us on the first run. I would have been happier if they reversed their decision and let us swim. They need to have more drinks on the run next year or I'm not going to do this race. Course is perfect for me so I will consider if they add at least one more drink station on the run.

Many people have been asking my opinion of this popular show, so I feel obliged to scream out: It's terrible! It’s horrible! It's abusive! I also feel like throwing my shoe at the TV.

I’m a 240lb man, and I run relatively long distances. How would you recommend training for marathon and IM distances as heavy as I am?
