Sunny
Total Time = 1h 55m 26s
Overall Rank = 82/93
Age Group = 45-49 (Finished 2 of 2)
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Had a cup of yogurt and a granola bar. Watched the Olympic swimmers start.
Event warmup:

Stretching. Ran about 1/4 mile.
Swim
  • 26m 10s
  • 1000 meters
  • 02m 37s / 100 meters
Comments:

Bad. My first open water swim and first swim in a wetsuit. I wasn't scared but I panicked. Although it provides incredible bouyancy, it seems like the wetsuit fights my body rotation. This really threw me off. I never really got any rhythm. I spent most of the time in sweet spot gasping for air. It was disappointing because I know I can do better.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more in open water. Progress further with TI. More training.
Transition 1
  • 03m 1s
Comments:

Transition went as well as could be expected. I was slow but needed a little rest after the swim. Came out of the water dizzy. Transition was much better than my first triathlon
What would you do differently?:

Practice a little more getting the wetsuit off.
Bike
  • 51m 49s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 14.36 mile/hr
Comments:

The headwind going out was brutal, especially on my piece of crap mountain bike. Passed another rider in the last 1/16 mile, which was a mistake. It elevated my heart rate too much and took a lot out of me in preparation for T2 and the run.
What would you do differently?:

I did as well as I could considering my ability and equipment. Need to train more. Get road tires for the mountain bike (they are actually on order but did not arrive on time due to a shipping snafu). Shouldn't have tried to pass on the last 1/16 mile. Need to get a road bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

A little slow as I was winded because of passing on last 1/16 mile of bike. Good transition.
What would you do differently?:

See bike.
Run
  • 33m 7s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Running after the bike was not too bad. Had may legs after the first 1/8 mile. Ran well considering my ability. They need to have more water stations on the course.
What would you do differently?:

Train more.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, then stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Open water swimming. Training.

Event comments:

This was my second triathlon. I had a great time. Quite a bit harder than my first one but that is good. I just wish I would have swam to my ability. It will be much easier when I get this swimming thing licked and get a better bike.
