I give major props to those those who can workout after 8pm. I am a morning person for the most part, but may have to change up my routine due to work relocation. I guess it will feel weird SBR later at night, but I understand you gotta fit it in where you can.

Mostly evening/late sessions.
Except for swimming.

Wife hates it, but I'm soon to get a mag trainer to replace the wind trainer.

Me too. I trained for two 70.3s this year with 90% of my bike and run sessions. Usually start at 9/10, finish by 11/12. Sleep by latest 1

Add me to the list of "night owls." I usually do my strength training after work, in the late afternoon, but almost all of my runs are after 10pm. It's cooler, less traffic, and fewer distractions. I've never been able to get up at 4 or 5 am to do anything "active," and other than some tweaking before a race (a few day runs to get used to heat and humidity), I don't think it's had any negative effects.

I also have NO problem sleeping after exercising late at night, and some of my long runs get done at 1 or 2 AM.

Count me in too. I've done alot of late night runs and indoor bike rides. Like some other folks here, I've started as late as 10pm and try to get done by midnight or 1am in any case. To be honest, I really enjoy late night runs. The air is cooler, it's quiet, and there is no rush to be back home for work or making lunches or anything so I can extend my runs if I feel like it. And besides, I'm an after dark IM finisher, so it's good to get used to late evening temps and the darkness.

I go both ways during the school year...

I get up at 4am on Sunday (Bike), Mon (Swim), and Wed (Run).
I go out after 9pm on Mon (Run), and hop on the drainer on Tue or Thur.
Since I'm off work Fri & Sat, those are the most "normal" times I have.

I'm generally up at 4am, and crash out between 10-11p depending on the day. I've found that when I come back from a late workout, I wait 15mins then shower and I sleep like a baby.

*edit* - Full disclosure: My swim and bike training is at Oly/HIM distances and my runs are sprint distance still.

I do most of my workouts in evening. I like it - my race day efforts usually surpass my training, since I haven't had a full day of work prior to my S/B/R.

No problems falling asleep after working out. If I did, certainly would change workout times to early AM.

All of my training is in the evenings except on weekends. Two kids. Full time job. I don't want to miss the two hours I have with the whole family over supper. I have spent most of my life having troubles falling asleep. The trick for me with evening workouts has been not to go to the tv or screens post workout - a shower or tidy up and sit down or lie down with a book or tri magazine lets me wind down. If I turn on the tv or start anything that would seem like a evening of TV, soon without noticing I will spend two or more hours up and not get enough sleep which hurts the next morning at 6. I think if you develop a routine it is easily doable. It has been for me despite my less than ideal sleep patterns for years before adopting tri life

Long story short.. I am terrible at getting up early. I have a new baby at home, so I don't want to have an obnoxious alarm that wakes my wife, and I seem to have an auto pilot mode that I can just turn off my alarm without even thinking about it, or even remembering that I do it. I am trying to keep my training invisible so I don't compromise family time.

I am thinking about trying to get my workouts in after the baby and my wife have gone to bed. I am afraid the stimulation of exercise will keep me up late and I'll have trouble getting to sleep. I'm sure someone else is in similar circumstances that may have some insight?

Thanks!

Well I do a lot of mine between 0800 and 1000. I worked third shift so that is late in the evening for me. I can run and swim and after a quick shower be asleep by the time the towel hits the floor. Now biking is different, sometimes I go right out, other times, I am awake for hours. I get up no matter what at 1500 to meet the kid coming home. There are late naps involved before work, but I am always up at that time, no matter what time I go to sleep.

If you have problems sleeping, Melatonin works pretty good. At 190 pounds I take a 3mg tab, sometimes two tabs. Stay away from the Zquill, it leaves a nasty sleep hangover. Also http://www.drinkneuro.com/the-drinks/sleepworks well, it takes about 20 minutes to relax you enough to go out and it does not have any after effects.
