I don't post much here anymore, but I thought I'd share with people who would really "get it." Friday I answered a phone call from an unknown number that just happened to be a rep. from Ironman. She said something......sort of blacked out and woke up when she asked if I wanted to use my legacy slot this year or wait until next year. Worked on logistics all weekend and pulled the trigger. We're moving to Italy in July so things will be even more crazy but I thought I'd share.

I started on BT in July of 2007 and have always had the "dream" of Kona, knowing that I wasn't very fast and honestly I don't train like a man trying to qualify for Kona. I have 4 young kids, all under 11, and a wife I love being with so training takes a back seat for them. Until now

Again, just thought I'd share. I'm going to go finish packing my closet then get on the bike. Have a great week.

That is so cool, thanks for sharing. I'm curious about the qualification details. From what I can see, you had to do an IM in the last two years and doing one this year, correct? Logistically how is that going to work out with your upcoming big move?

Would love to see a race report when you're done!

ETA: I see now in your sig line that you did TX.

Congratulations!!!

That is so very cool. I think the legacy program is a great way to support loyal age groupers - one I fully hope to be able to take advantage of someday. I hope you have a wonderful experience.

You are correct. Have to do an IM this year and last year plus enough of them in other years to get you to 12. From what I was told on the phone, the waiting list once you get to 12 is growing fast. I was guaranteed a slot in 2016 when I missed the Legacy Lottery this year. The rep. told me that she expects the wait list to grow and guaranteed slots may be end up being 2-3 year wait. That means you'd have to continue doing one a year while you wait to keep your eligibility.

We've checked flights from Sicily to Kona for almost the same exact price as the US. That travel portion will be just like when we came back from Japan to race Lake Placid. Sort of a hassle but not terrible. The biggest change is the movers start coming tomorrow, I now have to travel with my bike and trainer for the next two months. Adding the training gear to the 4 kids, 2 large dogs, and 8 suitcases will make the flight over a bit insane, but we're flying direct from military base to military base so I will not have to deal with the normal airline issues.

My wife said I traveled with my bike when we moved to Japan too, I apparently blacked those details out.

I will defiinitely keep checking back in.

Outstanding for you! Just finished #12 at IMTX, and looking forward to being included in the selection group for 2016 (I read there are about 250 people in the group right now). I hope to get there before birthday 60. I wish you have an amazing day and tell us all about it!

As I entered the transition area, I got body marked. It was, for me, pretty intense. It made it so real...I was doing this! A triathlon!

My thanks to the triathlete community for being there when I need you. That’s the beautiful thing about triathletes. None of us are all right, and no one expects anyone else to be.
