Total Time = 1h 24m 13s
Overall Rank = 228/304
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 25/26
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3:45. Peanut Butter Sandwich and a Banana. One Gel about 30 minutes before start and about 20 oz of water prerace
Event warmup:

Due to it being a pool swim there wasn't an opportunity for warmup
Swim
  • 08m 19s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 46s / 100 meters
Comments:

Somehow ended up behind a slower swimmer which caused me some time getting around that person. Also took it real easy as I didn't want to overdo it on my first tri
What would you do differently?:

Go a little faster
Transition 1
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

This went really well. Took a little bit of extra time to make sure everything was in order and I didn't forget anything.
Bike
  • 38m 16s
  • 10 miles
  • 15.68 mile/hr
Comments:

First 5 miles went really well until we got into the headwind. That really started to wear on me and I pulled something in my right hip flexor. I eased off a bit after that and that also hurt me quite a bit in the run as I had a hip flexor injury 5 years ago that took 5 months to get rid off.
What would you do differently?:

Get out more on the bike. I only did 5 or 6 rides before this tri so definitely didn't have enough bike time before the race
Transition 2
  • 02m 28s
Comments:

When I got to the rack the guy next to me had placed his bike too far over and there wasn't enough room for me to rack my bike. A volunteer came over and helped me racking, but overall that cost me probably 30 to 45 seconds. I also took some extra time to get some more water in before heading out.
What would you do differently?:

Unforeseen event with the racking so not much I can do there. Could speed up a bit though
Run
  • 33m 3s
  • 3 miles
  • 11m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Due to the pulled hip flexor I took plenty of walking breaks to not aggravate it any more. The run is my worst of the three anyways due to the nerve damage I had in my legs 2 years ago. It's been taking a lot of time to work to this level. It's still improving though just not quick enough. My 5k time even with the walking was better than the 5k I ran for practice on Memorial Day weekend so can't complain
What would you do differently?:

Need to run more definitely. It's the one that takes the most out of me and the hardest to see improvements.
Post race
Warm down:

Not much really

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Pulled hip flexor

Event comments:

Well organized. Friendly atmosphere. Pool start was kind of a mess with people realigning with their swim times that were submitted wrong. It was hard to figure out in what order to line up with all the changes.

Overall I'm very happy considering the shape I was in 2 years ago post my Guillain Barre.
