Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = 473/510
Age Group = F25-29
Age Group Rank = 29/32
Pre-race routine:

Drove up the day before- went to packet pickup, went to Kathy's party and chilled, drove the bike course with Rob and Aaron with my psycho husband at the wheel. Slept like crap, got a wake up call from Rob at 5:10, had a bagel with pb and 2 cups of OJ, packed up the car, and headed for the race site.
Event warmup:

The usual- talking with BT people, posing for pics, trying not to think about the swim.
Swim
  • 36m 35s
  • 1548 yards
  • 02m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

I think my overall rank sums it up nicely. I'm SLOW. Very very SLOW. I thought I was moving pretty quickly until most of the wave behind me caught and passed me. I'm happy that I was able to do this swim because it was BY FAR my longest OWS yet.
BTW, my watr resistent HR monitor wasn't so water resistant- as soon as I got in the water the damn thing filled up with water, so I took it off and had a volunteer give it to my husband. So much for knowing how long I've been racing!
What would you do differently?:

Swim more swim more swim more. I have A LOT of work to do.
Transition 1
  • 03m 31s
Comments:

It was a long way from the lake to transition, and I tried to move quickly but not too quickly.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 21m 25s
  • 25.5 miles
  • 18.79 mile/hr
Comments:

As usual the bike was my stongest event. The Blue Lu did well and I have no regrets about racing on him untested.
I passed a bunch of women and even a few men, and didn't get passed by any women. Somewhere between the 5 and 15 mile markers, Aaron and Rob passed me, and then right before the finish I caught up to Pam.
What would you do differently?:

Get a proper bike fitting
Transition 2
  • 02m 10s
Comments:

I took my time because I didn't want to get my HR up any higher.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 1h 10m 11s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 11m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Ugh. This SUCKED. My hips were shot. My left foot was numb. The entire men's and women's 35+ field that hadn't already passed me on the swim/bike passed me on the run. But I made it :).
What would you do differently?:

Um, RUN MORE? DO MORE BRICKS?
Post race
Warm down:

I was FREEZING. Drank my first Red Bull :). Ate lunch with C and Rob and Meredith. Walked around a little.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No one thing. This was my first olympic, my first tri season, I know I didn't train enough, but I did it, and I have a time (and target) to beat next year.

Event comments:

What a great race! Plenty of volunteers, lots of food and drink, lots of BT people, very organized. I will be back next year!

Excellent race, Polly! You should be very happy with your results!!!

We had a great time spending the weekend with you and Chris (and others) and it was nice to see you out on the bike course--you looked great and have a smokin' bike split to prove it.

Well done!

Polly—like you said— your first Oly, your first season, your longest OWS and your longest run by far. With adequate training, you will be dangerous next year. Let's get some road races in during the fall and early winter to keep us motivated to run more.

You did great! and you have the right attitude! Congrats on finishing your first OLY!!

Polly,

Great race yesterday!  You looked fantastic on the bike and had a great split.  Only going to get better as you and Blue Lu get more comfortable with one another.  You've had a great first season.

It was fun meeting up with you and Christopher and hanging out this past weekend.  Looking forward to getting together for more racing and training sessions in the future.

WOW!  Kick race!  I have to go back and read your logs to see how you managed that fine performance in your first year of racing. Lots of hard work, no doubt. Congrats!
