Warm down: Warm-down? Its was +100F!!! What warm-down. I managed to get away from the finish line with out getting killed. I did get a banana (which half broke off and feel to the ground. Oh they did have a hydrant opened up spraying people - a.k.a. shower. Event comments: After all said and done, the event was very well organized considering the amount of people and races going on at the same time. The rest areas will very well staffed and were very helpful with those in need. I did see emergency crews along the course. The rest areas got progressively more suited to need as the event progressed. e.g. More cots and places to sit/lay down on the last few stops as compared to the festive ones toward the begining. I laughed becuase I can just see it....you're all tired and pittiful at the end, and plop! There goes the banana. Like adding insult to injury. Got to love this. Pre-race consisted of getting up at 4am (I am not a morning person) and driving for 1.5 hours (did I mention I am not a morning person). Getting to Witchita Falls the place looks like it has been invaded - more to the point, it was being invaded. Thousands of cars, truck, and SUVs are finding parking spots on any paved portion in the city. I park in a rain gullet between two businesses. Get on the bike and shuffle my way to the start.
Warm up?? What warm up? Can one even stretch when there are more than 10K people waiting at a start line? I guess if you call shifting from foot to foot a warm-up then that was it. Oh wait - there was the 15 minute walk/shuffle up to the starting line after the race started. Does that count?
