Signed up for my 1st Tri.

Easing in with a sprint, but just noticed that the race is 2 weeks after my vacation which means exercise will be limited.
I have seen many plans recommend a ramp down week before, so how I should work around this?

I'm not sure I can bring my bike with me, and there is no gym. I can disappear for 30 minutes a day to get a run or swim in.
I'm thinking about going all out 3 days straight as soon as I get back then taking 3 days off before the race.

Any advice?

Also, I'm looking at an Oly 2 months later. Not sure how a rookie will hold up, but figure the sprint would be training for it.

You're not really going to gain much fitness in the last 2 weeks. You're training should have you ready to do the distances once you hit the 2 week mark. I would suggest getting 3 workouts in each discipline the week before race week. Left Brain had a good taper week workout to do when 3 days out (search his posts...it was recent). 2 days out...rest. 1 day out...easy spin, easy swim and a short jog. Practice your transitions during race week.

This is what I am doing as well. I am doing IM Muskoka on August 30th. I will be in Walt Disney World from August 17th to August 27th. I figure all the walking I will be do will be enough training Otherwise it will be an extra long taper.

IM Louisville is Oct 11. I will be in Walt Disney World from October 3 til the 8th. I will swim and run at Disney and get a ride in on Friday in Louisville. Race on Sunday. I will be considering the walking as tapering as well.

Well have fun at Disney! I've lived here for several years and still haven't been. I guess I prefer the beach and fishing over crowds and hyper children.

After reviewing last year's results, it's clear I'm only competing against myself. Just want to know the best way to pace into the race.

Scrolling down bike times, I realize I'm going to get smoked by nearly 20 minutes on my heavy mountain bike.

Thanks for the input on tapering off, I'm just doing this for fun, but am still a little nervous and like to follow recommendations from those with experience when I can.

As I entered the transition area, I got body marked. It was, for me, pretty intense. It made it so real...I was doing this! A triathlon!

My thanks to the triathlete community for being there when I need you. That’s the beautiful thing about triathletes. None of us are all right, and no one expects anyone else to be.
