I am headed to this race for the first time in Sept and will actually be visiting the area late Aug. Is the bike course something that can be done without the race (traffic, etc).
The bike course is fine to do without the race. Only problem is RT 5. It can be very busy in the middle of the day, especially on the weekends. There is a very nice bike path that runs parallel to RT 5 that you could ride on and stay away from traffic. I haven't ridden the course this year but the road can be rough in spots. Good luck
I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09
I struggled on the bike while climbing the hill portions of the course. I do fine on long straight rides but really have a tough time while hill climbing. Any advice or training tips?
I just had a couple of problems, I could count the number of triathlons I had contested at zero. Secondly, I could count on one hand the number of times I had been swimming in the last 17 years.
To help you extract the most from my account, I will highlight the specific take-aways that will not only improve your race time, but reduce unecessary bloodshed.
This half Ironman plan covers many weeks of challenging, but attainable training for someone who has some endurance experience, and ideally some Olympic distance races within the past season.
