Age Group Rank = 6/16
Swim
  • 37m 2s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 28s / 100 meters
Comments:

Overall felt good. First 200m drafted and swam in the group but after the first buoy it was a solo swim. The buoys were hard to see.
What would you do differently?:

Swim straight!
Do bi-lateral breathing, kept reverting to my comfortable side.
Use googles with a darker tint.
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

T1 time is approximate
What would you do differently?:

Do not put jels in my bike shoes.
Bike
  • 1h 26m 19s
  • 40 kms
  • 27.80 km/hr
Comments:

Not many people to pass until loop #4, so it was hard to pace myself.
#4 hill was the hardest. 5 loops in total.
What would you do differently?:

Work more on the hills. Pay attention to my body position.
Transition 2
  • 00m 30s
Comments:

T2 time is approximate
What would you do differently?:

Stalled a bit.
Run
  • 59m 42s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 58s  min/km
Comments:

Stopped twice because of the sore foot.
First loop was very bricky, some side stitches.
Second loop felt good for energy.
What would you do differently?:

More brick training.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not straight on the swim. Sore neuroma on the run.

This was my first Olympic. To my surprise, my energy levels were good all the way to the end. I will fix the foot neuroma and do better next time.

Event comments:

Not as organized as during the previous years but still a nice race.

I found a sprint, the Lake Las Vegas Triathlon, that was happening four months down the road and signed myself up; much to the surprise of friends and family.

I have Bontrager Race Lite wheels. I was looking into renting Zipp 303's or 404's for race day for Ironman Lake Placid. What time will I save?

I am running Boston in April and Ironman Lake Placid is in July. I have been told that it is ambitious to think about doing an IM so close to a marathon due to the recovery time. Any suggestions?

The first time I ventured into the deep murky green lake and could not see the bottom my muscles tensed and my imagined fears surfaced. What exactly lies beneath?

Both the Lake Triathlon Shoe CX210TRI and the Lake Road Shoe CX225 offer distinct advantages. I tested both shoes and found them to be extremely comfortable, good looking and durable.

A description of my experiences during my first triathlon. It was a great experience. I’m in better shape than I’ve ever been.

If you are calm while everyone around you is losing it, you probably don’t know what the hell is going on.
