Total Time = 5h 58m 1s
Overall Rank = 75/104
Age Group = M30-39
Age Group Rank = 21/27
Swim
  • 43m 36s
  • 1900 meters
  • 02m 17s / 100 meters
Comments:

Watch strap broke just after the first buoy (about 100m in). Managed to catch the watch as it slipped off, but had to do the rest of the swim holding it! Also had to stop at each buoy to let the water out of my goggles as they kept letting in water until about the 1000m mark.
Transition 1
  • 02m 31s
Comments:

New helmet (with visor), practised at home getting it on quickly, wasn't so smooth on race day. Opened shoe a bit too much and strap came off the loop on right shoe. Had to stop to fix.
Bike
  • 3h 03m 9s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.35 mile/hr
Comments:

Kept the pace at a fairly comfortable level and even backed off a little on the last lap. Still finished 9mins quicker than I predicted
Transition 2
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Since I didn't have my watch with me for the bike I decided to turn off the cycle computer to make sure the data was saved and then, for some reason, wasted more time turning my lights off (night race, lights were mandatory).
What would you do differently?:

Not worry about the lights or computer!
Run
  • 2h 07m 31s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Somehow managed to get some fine gravel in my shoes which acted like sandpaper. Stopped a couple of times to try to get rid of it but failed.
Haven't run enough this year so faded quite a bit by the last lap.
What would you do differently?:

Run more.

Event comments:

Well organised race and a total bargain at the price!

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"

All you have to do is say you’re a triathlete and you intimidate the whole world. No matter how much you bench press or what you lift or how many squats you can do.
