Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to score at least 20 triathlon specific workout DAYS out of the 30 possible in September.

Workouts must be in the disciplines of swim, bike, and run/walk. Strength training is optional and may be scored as a workout.

No more than 10 workout days may be in any one discipline. Bricks are excluded from this limit.

You must score at least one workout in each discipline per week.

You should try to have no more than 3 rest days in any one week.

ETA: Please note, we are counting DAYS not workouts. So if you do two in one day, it still only counts as ONE DAY. The idea behind this challenge is to build consistency.

Welcome everybody. Personally, I will be posting up every day, simply because I'm on here logging my workouts. But if you prefer to post several days at a shot, feel free. This is supposed to be about fun and consistency, and maybe feeding off each others motivation a little bit.

1/20
Bike - 46m 55s - 9.01 miles - 11.52 Mi/hr

It felt a lot slower than when I did this 9 mile loop last week, yet it was only 8s longer and .1mph avg slower. Looking at the map I can see that I was really dogging it for the 2 miles on the back side for the second lap. Had I been doing 11mph instead of 10mph it would have made a significant difference.

On a positive note, however, there were several times that I looked down to see myself pacing over 16mph on the flats. That's a definite improvement for me.

2/20
Walk - 34m 49s - 2.00 miles - 17m 24s /Mi

Wow! I went back through my MapMyFitness logs and found that this was the fastest time I have ever recorded for this route. I may have done it faster as part of my 3.7 mile route three years ago, but never as a 2 mile stand alone. The racewalking definitely is an improvement, and I wasn't even trying to do that on the way out.

Restarting c210k today (at least not at the beginning, though). The knee injury this summer has put me back quite a bit. It wasn't like I had far to fall back, either.

3/20 - Swim - 12m 42s - 600.00 yards - 02m 07s /100 yards
8am is definitely NOT a good time to get to the pool. Better to wait for 9am, folks who swim laps don't want to hear that blasting music for the Aqua-Zumba classes. Once I could finally get in the water it was a pretty pleasant swim. Felt pretty easy, but I decided not to add yardage until next week. Follow the plan.

Woke at 6:00 am and decided to run. I haven't run that early since my college days, it felt good.

I figure I owe leatherneck 20 workouts this month so I might as well get started. Thanks for the challenge.

4/20 - Walk - 53m 21s - 2.75 miles - 19m 23s /Mi
Quite satisfied. Left the house with no intention whatsoever of caring about speed/time. Knew that I wanted a "long and slow" walk today. Added 3/4 of a mile and still came in under 20m/mile. And that is despite REALLY holding back coming down Hillside Dr. I do believe that I dislike coming down even more than I do going up that hill.

Rough weekend for me to keep the momentum. Drove nearly 6 hours Saturday to stay with friends for the holiday weekend. So that was a rest day. Sunday we took the kayaks and paddled all over the Rappahannock and some grass marshes searching for the eagles that they have seen there. No luck there, but it was a great workout. Their river has no current compared to what we are used to up here in PA, so if we were moving its because we were paddling. Compounding that was that Cindy couldn't keep up using her pink paddles because the blades are too small. So she used MY paddle and I got stuck with the tiny pink blades. I could keep up, but only because I was expending an insane amount of energy. The tech shirt I was wearing could literally be wrung out when we finally returned to the dock. I was wetter before I dunked at the dock than I was after I got out of the water.

Monday
5/20 - Walk - 30m - 1.50 miles - 20m /Mi

Walked all over half of downtown Fredericksburg following Kevin while we searched for Valerie, who oit turns out was already back at the car waiting for us. City walking is tougher than what I usually do. Sidewalks are uneven, people get in the way, trees, cars, bicycle posts, all kinds of crap. I don't like it.

Got a nice little swim in this evening. Don't know why I call those last 3x50's cool down laps. I was really digging the returns on each of them and it paid off. They were all under 60s.

Executing this full Ironman plan for 17 weeks would give people with one Ironman under their belts very good preparation for a 2nd and 3rd. Preferably, you should have a 6:30 or faster HIM time.

This Intermediate 20 week plan is a quick ramp up in overall volume, but with 20 weeks to train only, it is a gradual and safe approach because of the alternating weeks of the long run/bike.
