I have volunteered at a number of ironman's and this was the most fun I have had with people being relaxed, having fun, and the crew leaders being relaxed and nice as well. The coolest thing, FIRST TIME finisher was 69! at 69 she decided to do an IM!

that's all -- just letting everyone know volunteering is fun and you are never too old too set new goals

I was a volunteer captain at IM Coeur d'Alene for 6 years, five of them spent with run or bike course marshals. There are some great volunteers that pick up the athletes with a well-timed cheer, a boom box blasting music out in the middle of nowhere on the bike course, or crazy costumes. I've been greatly inspired by both athletes and volunteers over the years.

Coeur d'Alene is having both HIM and IM events next year (on separate dates) for the first time ever. Guess who is signed up to compete in the HIM? Me!!!

A friend of mine raced IMMD yesterday. He was my coach when I lived in New York. He would win all of the local sprint and olympic tris., but he was humbled yesterday when he shuffled into the finish line at a 12:00 per mile pace. His final time was about 11:30, though, and I'm impressed.

They were short volunteers at the Tempe IM 70.3 yesterday. So I helped out in the finisher tent for a while, handing out medals and water. It was awesome! You see everything from people barely functioning at the finish line to those doing a summersault with a huge smile. The sport is amazing!

Volunteering is the BEST and so rewarding!

I had a terrible volunteer experience at LP, hope yours is better. We got yelled at - a lot, to the extent athletes commented on it and expressed their gratitude in spite of the yelling as volunteer team leaders fought over whose rules of the day we should follow. I emailed them about how awful it was, hopefully they made changes.

My experience as a volunteer at a sprint triathlon. My reasons for arising before the sun were not to work out, but to volunteer. I wanted to give back to a sport I’m learning to love.

Everyone and anyone that has ever raced in a triathlon should take it upon themselves to volunteer at just one event next season. It is an eye-opening and inspirational experience.
