How long after an Ironman do you start running again? I've mostly read 2 weeks. It's been 9 days since my IM and I have recovered nicely. I wanted to try an easy run/walk for 3 miles tonight.

I'd say start back whenever your body feels recovered. I did an easy 3 mile recovery run 5 days after IMLou this year, but I felt good.

have you been spinning on the bike ? I find that really helps my legs recover better and faster.

your idea of 3 mi run/walk sounds fine. build it slow and take it easy

Everyone's different.  It takes me two weeks but I think I'm at the far right of the scale.  It can be better if you stretch, eat right, hydrate and sleep a lot but if you're a 200lb 41 year old male who pigs out after a race and gets his beer on.  About two weeks...

After an IM, even though I feel recovered, I ease back into it to give my body a chance to fully heal.

Post IM, I only swim the first week. The second week, I'll throw in a few spins and continue some swimming. The third week, I will add a few easy runs while continueing to swim and spin. I also make sure I get plenty of sleep, eat fairly well, and drink water.

After those three weeks, it's game on again. As endurance athletes, I think we don't do enough recovery and healing.

During the race there will be plenty of opportunities to exchange bottles, so I'm thinking about going with the aero bottle and Gatorade bottle and fill up as necessary. What should I do?

Training our bodies to work efficiently in Zone 2 will help us keep our HR and pace even throughout an Ironman. This theory would hold true for the bike and run portion of an Ironman race.

If a heart patient can do these things, then so can those of you who haven't been split open like a fish and sewn back together.
