Thinking about signing up for a marathon relay with my wife. It would be 2 legs a piece, each leg is 6 or 7 miles. Wondering how to train for this and if anyone has any advice. Should we just be half marathon ready? I have saw some say to run two runs on your long run day and break it up. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I've done a couple of these relays (Falls to Gasworks in Washington, back in my college days), where we did a log of the race, then stuffed ourselves into a car to get to the next hand-off. For those distances, I'd say be a race-ready for something a little longer than half-marathon, and just make sure you either get a nice warm-up for the second leg, or just don't let yourself cool down fully.

Just train as if you are doing the whole distance in one race, which would be a half-marathon in this case..
Pacing is key-- you can go a bit faster than half-marathon pace, but not much. You might be tempted to go faster, but if you go at close to 10K pace you will likely be slower on the second leg.

I signed up for Ironman Frankfurt, next year July - and I am very excited about it. I originally planned to run my first Marathon in the middle of September, but am not sure if this is wise.
