Got in a short run this morning before i had to check out. I ran out to Lake Mercier and back on the course. I was due for more but had to get back and pack up and check out.

Where is everyone in terms of distances for training? How long have your long bikes been? I'm worried now (pre-race jitters?) because I haven't done a bunch of 100+ mile rides. For longer distances I've done 85, 87, 90 and 102 and sections have been on the trainer. I learned from yesterday's ride that I need to tweak my nutrition apparently - i was feeling a little queasy by the end (probably not enough water in general).
Another thing I learned was my saddle decided to choose yesterday to leave me with saddle sores the size of quarters (insert crying emoji here).
I know not super positive but jitters and end of peak weeks are kicking in. hahaha

On a super happy side, the village is cute and fun and there are tons of food options available. The roads are in great shape and a pleasure to ride. The lake looked calm and inviting and if I could have stayed another day I surely would have gone swimming!
The picture below is one I took as soon as I got out of my car so forgive the quality but i thought you'd like to see the signs!

Glad you got up there Jenn, now you see why Tremblant is so popular!! It really is a great destination to race both for the course and the resort. A 3:08 loop is a great time for being on your own without race adrenaline. In the 2014 race I rode 2:50, 3:10 loops.

The hill on the 117 is not too bad. Its probably about 6%, less than 80m up over about 1.2km. And you get to bomb down it first. Can hit at least 70kph.

One more big training weekend!

Thank you again for sharing so much about your experiences on the course!

I have been battling saddle sores all season, and have found epsom salt baths to be the biggest help.

For length of rides, I have done a hilly 75, a hilly 80, 100 & 115. That said, don't stress about not doing a ton of centuries. Training for my first ironman (Coeur d'Alene), my longest ride was 80 or 85 miles. While that is not ideal, I had a successful race.

And don't minimize the trainer rides! On the trainer, you don't get any downhill recovery--you are constantly pedaling. Many coaches will tell you to shorten your workout if you are riding the trainer to account for this (I forget what the exact recommendation is).

The hard work is done, and you are ready. Now, try to enjoy taper! Or, more accurately, try not to obsess too much during taper!

Yes! I will be looking to do the 70.3 there in 2018! It sold out in less than a day for next year! I can see why!

Yes! Epsom salt bath last night actually and planning one tonight, heading to get tea tree oil now - heard it works wonders.

You are right about not obsessing - it's my first so right now I'm second guessing everything I've done, but that is probably normal for a first timer.

Taper Madness. It is a thing--and not just for first timers!

My list & itinerary making process has commenced. I will be revising each several times over the coming days. I realized on Tuesday that I have to drop my bike & gear bag off for transport next Thursday. I immediately ordered another batch of my custom Infinit & extra goggles to ensure I have them in time to send in my gear bag. Because of course.

Wow! It around the corner wooooohoooooooo :-)

I am obsessing about my packing now. My bike leaves on Tuesday! I leave on the 17th.

I have done several 80's100's but my last ngest run has been 14 as I did nit want to aggrave my calf. Its all giod though...my obsession has been the bike hills so I sure hope the hill training on the virtual trainer has helped!

Happy taper....surely the feelings if feeling fat, bloated and achy are coming soon...lol...they always do with taper. My husband just asked this am about it...he he he

Have a great day!

Tapering....must be nice. I'm still in build mode!! Still cramming in as much training as I can...well at least for another week or so...

In any case, I'll be as ready as I can be. Also, getting excited for racing day.

I'm with you - I'm still planning on a 20 mile run tomorrow, a 1 mile/100 mile/ 6 mile "dress rehearsal" on Monday, and a 70-80 mile ride next weekend. I've missed some of my long workouts over the last few weeks for a variety of reasons (unfortunately including developing an acute Lyme infection last week), but I'm still excited about returning to the spectacular that is an ironman event after an eight year hiatus from long-course triathlon.

For those of you concerned about a possible lack of long rides, don't worry about it. I firmly believe (and know from 12 years of experience) that it is the shorter, more intense work (including trainer rides) that really does the most for you, more so than slogging out multiple centuries at an easy pace.

Wow, Rob! I hope you're feeling better!!
I am training vicariously through you! I'm still recovering from a big ole saddle sore (tmi) from riding the course last week. I haven't been able to ride since; though it's slowly going down.
I am glad you mentioned the shorter, more intense rides do the most because that is what I'll probably be left with over the next 1.5 weeks or so.
Ankle held up through 11.5 mile run today so I'm happy with that. I never made it past 16 miles during training due to Achilles inflaming a couple of weeks ago but it seems to be getting better. My PT is having me walk the uphill sections of runs.

I also went long this weekend. Rode 5.5 hours on Saturday, swam 45min and ran 3hrs today. All felt good except the end of the run, started to run out of steam...

Just like Rob said, don't get caught up on distances. Its all about the effort that went into your session. My ride Saturday was only 85 miles, but it was all hills. Would have been easily over 100 on flats, but that's not the point right?

2 weeks from now the midnight fireworks will be just about to start!

11 days....yikes. the window to cram in some additional training is getting very small...I just hope that my base and race day adrenaline are enough to carry me through to the finish line!

How is everybody feeling?

quick question about the swim start - are the swim waves by age group or is it a rolling start based on estimated finish times? When I raced IMMT in 2014, it was by age group, and I'm just wondering if anything has changed given WTC's swim start initiatives. Thanks.

It looks, right now, like AG swim starts (which means I get to sleep in...old lady..). Haha. Apparently sometimes IM makes a change last minute to self-seed and it would be mentioned in the pre-race briefing. We shall see what happens. If you see anything different, please post!

Bike goes in for a last check tomorrow and tire change on the back. I haven't ridden since last Tuesday when I rode the course due to a lovely cyst at the top of my leg from my long ride. It will not go away before race day..and too soon until race to have it removed...my 3:12 pace per loop just went out the window as I will have to get off the bike periodically to deal with the pain and re-lube. Ahhh, the things we do. I will make the best of the day and enjoy it. Here's to what makes an Ironman!! Cheers! It's been a heck of fun journey!
I'll bet there on Monday with my sis in law to swim/bike/run pieces of the course (she hasn't been yet). If you see someone out practicing wearing a bike shirt that has a cartoon character on the back wearing a bike helmet and drinking a beer with "powered by hops" underneath - that's me! Say hi!

Just dropped my bike off. It is beginning to sink in--this is happening soon! We arrive a week from tomorrow.

Workouts are moderate through this week, which is good, considering my toddler was diagnosed with strep yesterday, and no one has slept well in a few nights.

I am feeling fine, although underprepared, which seems to be the usual feeling around this time before the race . I'm bib 2318, starting at 6:51 a.m.

You've all done the hard work, now it's time to enjoy the celebration. Time goes by so quickly - even though there may be some "unpleasant" moments next Sunday, try to savor all of the amazing moments that will fill the day, culminating with crossing that line sometime Sunday evening.

You've all got this!
