I'm from the NKY area (Independence to be exact) and was wondering if anyone knew of any good areas to put some miles on my bike? So far I have resorted to dodging cars...

River Road west of Ludlow seems to be a favorite of many. It's about 8 miles from Bromley to the end of Route 8.

I've heard that but I have to say I'd be a little worried about riding on that road.

Have you ever ridden on that stretch? Traffic heavy?

Traffic's not heavy but you have to watch for the fast movers. The stretch from Stringtown to the end of Route 8 has light traffic and should be a safe ride. However, that stretch is only about 4 miles long each way.

If you are willing to drive to Ohio, Whitewater Park in Cleves has two bike loops and the roads around there are very rural, hilly or flat, and have many bikers on them in the evening and weekends

You might also want to try the Miami Valley Trail that runs from Lunken Airport to Springfield, OH. 76 miles in all. It will also connect with the 16 mile Ohio River Trail (not completed).

Hey, I'm your local police officer here in Independence, but I used to work in Boone County, so I know the roads Very Good around here. In my opinion, your best riding is over in Boone County. Stop at the court house in Burlington to get a map of the county. But here is my suggestions for good scenic riding that is Less Likely to get you killed...River Road (RT 8) is a good place to start, but for some really good riding, look at these roads. A group of riders meets a the park on Camp Ernst Road every Wednesday at 6pm, fyi. You can ride out to the park on your bike, but driving is best....Also, this route is the MEGA ride, but you can look at a map for yourself to shorten it into smaller routes. Starting at the park, go left(south) on Camp Ernst Road. Take a Left on Hathaway and then a Right on Big Bone Road. Take this to the end, and then take a right, this is Beaver Road. Take this to the end, and it will actually turn into Lower River Road, and you'll be biking along the Ohio river until you come to the town of Rabbit Hash. Stop in the General Store for a drink and stretch your legs. This is a traditional stop for cyclists and motorbikers. Get back on bike and go up the road by the General Store. At the stop sign, take a left and continue along Lower River Road. Look across the river and you'll see the Casino. This dead ends into KY18. Take a left here and have a good ride and great view down this LONG hill. Take a left on Bellview Road. You'll go thru the little town of Bellview and eventually come into Petersburg, where you'll take a Right onto RT 20. BIG UP HILL here, have fun! SEVERAL miles later, take a right on Idlewild Road. This will EVENTUALLY take you back to KY18. Take a left on KY18, then a quick right on Rogers Lane. You'll dead end back into Camp Ernst Road. Take a right, and back to the park you go. This is a HUGE ride, by the way. Get that map, and have fun! If you want more suggestions, just look me up at the police department.....Jim White. Hey, don't ya love the names of the roads!?!

Thanks for the suggestion Jim.

I used to live over there in  Boone County next to Boone Woods Park and I know all the streets you mention.  That does sound like a BIG ride.  I think I need to get in better shape before I take that one on.

Guess I gotta get a trainer so I can ride in this wonderful weather around here...

Yea, good luck with this weather. My wife and I are very PRO trainer. Plant in front of the TV and pedal away! Ye ha. At least ya don't have to worry about getting killed by someone in a car. Ive tried mapping out some bike routes here in Kenton County, but it just seems more dangerous, so I'm more apt to go back to Boone. Anyhow, have fun, and I'll see ya at the Thanksgiving Day Race!
