Hey gang!

I'm thinking of a completely new challenge for myself and doing the Squamish 50K. Has anyone done this event? Would love to know your thoughts on it.

I have yet to do it, but my wife and I signed up already!

I am signed up for the 50/50 and she is signed up for the 50k.

A few of my friends have taken part and highly recommend it.

In case you haven't watched the vid: https://youtu.be/4r-H9iyPZds

Better hurry though, 50k sells out fast, and since opening up this morning 50k is 60% sold out already!

Be sure to take advantage of some of the orientation runs! Only a $5 donation to their local trail maintenance group SORCA!

See you in Squamish!

I think I hit "register" at 7am on the dot! Ha! I'm in for the 50K!!! Kudos to you for taking on the 50/50. Very badazz. I'm on Vancouver Island so not able to join the orientation runs. But living near Mt Washington means lots of STEEP trail running handy.

Any suggestions on places to stay?

I don't have any suggestions yet, I'm about a 4 hour trip from squamish myself.

It has been suggested that places sell out early, so I'll be looking at booking soon! :p

Congrats on registering for the 50k, it's sold out already too, as well as the 50/50.

Just the 50 mile and 23k left for stragglers!!

might take the odd trip to vancouver's north shore for some similar training, as well as just checking out other fantastic trails over the next season

We booked into the Executive Suites, and they may still have rooms blocked for the racers. I'm excited! And the 50/50 will certainly earn you bragging rights!! You can do it!!!

Decided that since at the end of the summer I am doing the 50/50, I should see where I stand in April!!

I signed up for the Nimble bear 50k. It has 10/25/50k options, and I think will be a great way to evaluate how I can handle the elevation change and technical terrain with lots of singletrack!

Not QUITE as much ascent, but close enough for a benchmark!

Good plan! There are a few here in the Comox Valley that will be going to do Nimble Bear. Sounds like a fun race!

Hi! I have done it and as far as trail races go it's fantastic. Actually it's a killer. Be prepared to climb and climb and climb. If this is your first trail race, kudos! It is not a beginner run...That being said, there is no better atmosphere, camaraderie and OMG! scenery. My only advice is hill train, lots and lots of hill training. The word "sufferfest" comes to mind.

We go every year 50km (me) or 50 mile (DH). Have fun!

I've got a local hill here, with a loop where we go up one side, down the other, then back!!

Each loop is 7.7 kms, and nets 483 m ( 1,585 feet ) of climbing.

I figure if I work my way up in how many laps I can do, it'll be great training for squamish! :D

So you'll be there this year?

This year is a different year because my DH is doing the fat dog and we are both doing the Finlayson Arm. Squamish 50 is too close. Excited to do a local race though!

A bunch of friends keep asking me if I am doing Challenge Penticton this year, but it's only a week after Squamish!!

So many races, so little time!!

We are going to Penticton after Squamish. It's going to be weird watching everyone doing Challenge and not being part of the race. But my body won't let me do it all!! hahaha

I am thinking of volunteering at Challenge Penticton this year, as last year the volunteers were great, and the ones who were marshalling on the streets got evoc backpacks! :p

Dustin,

I just signed up for Cherry Blossom and I saw your name in the participants list.  It should be fun.  I'll have to check out the bike route to see what the one climb is like.  I'm hoping it won't slow me down too much.

I'm still looking at Challenge.  If I do well at the Oliver 1/54/10 and the Osoyoos Half (June 26th) I'll sign up for Challenge (I won't be setting any records - I just want to finish without any issues).

BusyGirl - If you do make it to Penticton It would be nice to say Hi.

It isn't much of a hill really, but you do it 3 times.

I can link you the strava segment or a garmin connect ride where I have done it if you like!

I forgot about the osoyoos lake loop tri.....

If you've got strava, see if this link works!

If not, here is the garmin connect file from last year

Thanks for the links Dustin.  I was able to view both.  Lots of interesting information.  I'll be well behind you on race day if that was your time last year.  I'll be closer to 95 minutes-ish.

A BT meeting would be nice if we can arrange it.

It was mine last year, I came in at 1:16:23 My first triathlon too ( finally! )

I have a better start on the swim and run this year, but I haven't been on the bike much, and might have aggravated the knee jumping into too big of a trainer session, so resting that for now :p

Hopefully I can get that healthy enough to start putting some good kms in again!

I totally forgot that we had tossed around the idea of a meet-up ( been busy with work! )

I did get to see at least one out of town buddy though at the race!

How did your day go George?
