Just got orthotics to help with plantar fasciitis and ludicrously high arches. Dr suggests putting them in bike shoes as well-- does anybody do this? Does this mean that for racing you use two pair?

I have high arches, need all running shoes in a neutral with my orthotics in (as does my brother) - never been a need to have them in the bike shoes. My bro does longer distance and marathons and has had fasciitis issues in the past. Bike shoes had no significant impact. And I wear what's considered wide by Specialized in their shoes and the idea of squeezing my orthotic in there would very likely prove to be way too tight.

I wear orthotics in my running shoes only. Found no need on the bike. As also stated, make sure you have a neutral shoe or you will cause yourself some other problems.

side story: I was battling plantars for 8 months. I was rolling foot daily with a yoga ball to help massage it out. I decided enough was enough, so I made an appt with local podiatrist. He said lets put you in a night splint(not a strasburg sock)for 3 weeks. I wore it the first night and woke up pain free the next morning stepping out of bed. I have been wearing it for almost a week and have great results so far.

I guess I'm weird.  I ONLY wear them in my biking shoes.

FWI: Specialized shoes come with a "varius wedge"  under the insole that alleviates some foot issues.

When I had a bike fitting, the fitter recommended I wear my orthotics in my bike shoes...I did for a while, but eventually stopped 'cause it was a little too crowded in there for my toes! Might consider wearing them again if I get better-fitting bike shoes.

Nope, no need. Only in running shoes but I have low arches.

I have battled PF in the past and have custom orthotics for my regular shoes. I use Superfeet insoles for both my bike and running shoes...seems to work for me.

Superfeet might be a good compromise. I'm also going to move to a much stiffer bike shoe and see if that helps (once I'm cleared to get back on the bike). Thanks all!

I wear PowerSteps in my bike shoes. The shoes are about one size bigger to accommodate them without crowding.

I don't wear any in my running shoes, but I do have a pair in all of my boots for work and home.

I've had yoursole.com insoles in my bike shoes for years. Still fight pf after 6 years, but the insoles help.

I can't see how they would help with PF when used in a bike shoe. The loading of your foot is not the same as when you walk, and the reason they work during ambulation would not apply.
