I've yet to practice an OWS and have my first OWS tri next weekend. Does anybody have any suggestions on a good/safe place to practice in the open water? I'm hoping to take advantage of the long holiday weekend, so a bit of a drive isn't too big of deal.

How clean does the river look this week? No, I'm serious... You have a great body of water to swim in, you just need to find a place to swim from.

Lakeside Swim Club will give you an open water feel (I basically grew up at that pool). Know anyone who is a member?

I probably do know some Lakeside members, just can't think of any off hand. Good thought though. I can't possibly live more than a mile from Lakeside and I've never been there, as sad as that is to say. As far as the Ohio River goes, I'm not sure I'm that desperate yet. Although, the Tri-America Louisville race uses it.

Freeman Lake in E-town used to allow open water swimming. Not sure if they still do. Would be a nice swim. No motor boats,so it'd be pretty safe. Call Elizabethtown Parks and Recreation to see what the scoop is.

My training group will be doing weekly OWS in a local quary once the weather warms up. You'll need to join the multisport team (yearly membership is only $125) and you get a weekly group run (groups are broken out by pace and each group has a pace leader), we ride LONG on Sundays and then OWS together on Wed.

Check out the site, www.thetrainingstudio.com if you think you might be interested. You can PM tsmultisport on BT as well and ask him any questions you might have. It's a great, non-competitive and fun group! Most of us are training for IMKY but there are 3 of us doing IMWI as well.

Not a regular place to practice, but here is an OWS coming up that I plan on doing. The Downtown YMCA is putting it on ... check it out.
